The harsh tirade had been expected. Becoming an Accepted had done wonders for the brewer’s daughter. When first they’d met, it had been as Novice and Dedicated. Their rank separated them in the way that children and adults held each other at arm’s length. Rough of tongue, the average country girl was overlooked as she spent days tending the Garden, as was her wont. Even then Valadin had sensed an imperturbable fortitude in her for all she claimed to be simple. Looking back on the days when his every utterance was law to Bee, he pondered if they would be missed.

The answering rebuke he’d been readying died on his tongue as he noted the glower and firm set of Bee’s shoulders. Despite more than two heads separating them in height he struggled to meet her eyes. Finally he muttered a simple, though begrudged, “As you wish.”

Not wanting to see the satisfaction in the girl’s face he stepped around her and began studying the fields of charred, disheveled earth. Nothing green grew in the Channeling Yards. Years of Soldiers and Dedicated honing their powers had likely flensed the land of any fertility long ago. For Valadin who much enjoyed nature and the gifts that the Creator had bestowed upon her it was a somewhat saddening scene.

“How’d ya manage to get all them pebbles into the air like that?” he asked, looking over his shoulder without turning. “Thought women were ‘pose to have little talent for Weaving Earth.”

Saidin still shimmered in a haze of might. If he closed his eyes, Valadin was certain he’d be able to see the cloud of light surrounding him. The sheer power roiling in his gut was enough to drive anyone made. Only the Void stood between that deluge and reason. “I figure if we can manage to get a big enough stone outta the ground then we’d be able to practice smashin’ like I seen a few lads from the Black Tower done.”

There was little doubt that Bee would manage it. Her strength in Flows of Earth was evident. It was he that needed to become stronger. And I will. Have to if I wanna help her. “Well? What say you?”

OOC: Hey there. I know you and Kiellan’s thread has gone pretty far, but I did want to finish this thread. If you wanted to end it early that’s fine, but I did want to go all the way with it.

She'd been expecting and prepared for some more argument, that fact it didn't come probably surprised her more than anything else but that didn't mean that Betrys was disappointed. The world had changed since she had become one of the Accepted, at times (most of them) she didn't feel that she was really deserving of the privilege and then there were moments when her spine solidified and she realised just what she could accomplish.

Apparently here and now had been one of those times.

"I do wish. So thank you" it never hurt to be gracious in victory, even if no-one would have ever believed it likely that Betrys would ever have the wherewithal to step up and make that sort of demand before now. She knew that Valadin made her heart skip and it certainly made strange things happen in her stomach but as long as she focused on the One Power and not him Betrys was also aware that she could handle it - at least mostly and with some skill at that being the case. Besides, it was more important to hold onto their friendship - she liked having friends and Valadin and Mirin were the people she was closest too, she'd never risk that friendship.

Not for any reason "I dinnae know exactly. I-I felt them, like when I feel the rich things in the soil and...I guess I used the Weave to coax them back up" she shrugged, it was probably the worst explanation...ever. But it was the only one she had at the moment "Bringing them together made sense as well and...yeah, I know about the Earth not being the girl thing. I guess I ain't much of a girl" she shrugged, Betrys wasn't really worried about whether it made her odd or a little different, she was used to that and since passing through the Arches and whole lot more accepting of it as well.

"Ok...but I'll need help. I ain't good at smashing much of anything" she grinned at him. This would probably be fun in any case, Betrys breathed in and out and gently opened herself up to the One Power inside her, unfolding into the embrace of the saidar and continuing to smile as she reached for the right Weave, Earth...floating naturally into her grip as she worked out the right sort she was going to need for the rest.

In truth Valadin understood little of what Bee said. Flows of Earth felt heavy and unwieldy. Saidin took power to control, but the deluge of Power that enlivened the world when it coursed his veins was malleable, changing as fate itself often did. With Earth it was not so. Not for him.

"I see, my thanks," he smiled before turning back to fields.

May as well try sumthin' he told himself. Saidin answered his call eagerly, Power filling him with sweet agony as held it and subjugated it to his will.

Taking Flows of Earth cautiously this time Valadin tried to listen as Betrys had suggested. Nothing came to him. The chirping cries of birds miles overhead rang in his Saidin-enhanced ears, but soil remained frustratingly silent. Drawing more of Saidin made his entire body tremble as he neared his threshold once more. Rivulets of sweat snakes paths down the small of his back. His temples throbbed in warning as he strained ever more. "Blood an' Ashes!"

Throwing down his coat he knelt on one knee and placed both palms on the ground, Saidin gorging in his veins. Then happened. In a spate of noise something called out to him. Ancient and unyielding it sang to him of things that could be. So many possibilities... thought in wonder. Where once he'd seen nothing, but dead land stretching endlessly before there was an endless potential of things that could be made if only he sang in harmony with the Creator's melody.

Sensing the moment slipping, Valadin hurriedly took the Flows, bending them clumsily to notes the song of Earth gave to him. As the last of his strength petered out the ground beneath both palms writhed and twisted. Standing to his feet twin arches of soil and stone rose from ground. Grunting under the effort he willed the two end to meet forming a hollow semicircle that stood half as tall as he. It roughly been, small round stones and gobbets of composite falling from the structure, but it stood firm as the storm of Saidin quieted leaving Valadin limp and peaked.

"Bee..." he panted, "Bee...that was bloody incredible! "

Having read a few of the famous poems and works of language art, Mirin had been rather insistent on some of her reading choices and that had given her at least a passing awareness of the literature available. Which didn't mean that Betrys liked it per se but she did really wish that she had some of those skills with wordplay in explaining what she was attempting to get across to him right now.

At least then he might have been more prepared.

"Can ya feel it? It ...sings?" she wasn't even sure if that was actually going to be helpful but it was how Betrys experienced the connection and it seemed logical to at least try to verbalise that so Valadin had an idea of what he was looking for in this attempt at the One Power, although she had to admit it might just be her poor skills in teaching or sharing the details. That would certainly make much more sense than anything else - it was certainly not going to be his fault, even if he had scared her earlier, Betrys would continue to think the best of him at all times.

She watched not with her limited five senses but also using the One Power to bolster her awareness of what was going on.

Betrys had stepped forwards when she'd hear the expletive and the way he sunk to the ground but she held back just enough to realise he'd finally got it "Yes....! Yes! That's it. Oh well done!" she clapped him, applauding his efforts as she bounced up and down on the balls of her feet "You did it!" Betrys cheered moving to hug him as all thoughts of what was proper vanished from her head.

Bee tumbled into him with surprising force. Already on a knee Valadin could cry out in surprise once as the pair collapsed in a tangle of arms and legs.

This close their hearts thrummed within chest, each pump pounding through the layers of cloth separating them. As light the girl was it would've taken little effort to lift her from him, but that pervading warmness from earlier kept Valadin from doing so. Scents of earth and flowers made his head spin while his tongue worked fruitlessly to form words.

Bee must have tried to move. Suddenly she slipped forward with a huff, head landing hard on his chest. Pain pulsed from where the blow had given, but Valadin paid no mind as finally roused himself to gently lift the flustered Accepted's face from his chest. "Y...ya alright? " he asked nervously.

If Bee answered he didn't hear, but she quickly scrambled to her feet, red coloring her youthful features. Grunting as he too stood a small biteme of guilt tugged at his conscience, however the fatigue which had overwhelmed him moments ago was washed away as his breath came in sputtering bouts.

A long silence stood between them. It was the kind of gap where one considered things...things they ought not to. Willing away the dull aching hunger he'd been nursing for some time now took effort. His mind held stubbornly to Bee's flustered face and how small she would be in his embrace. The stirrings ended with bitter loathing. Valadin was still very much the animal Master had made him to be.

"Why dunt you give it a try?" He asked, voice thick with emotion. "Bendin' the dirt like that...should be easy fer ya."

His fists were clenched at his sides while he spoke and he didn't meet Bee's eye; he couldn't. Ent you the one who said ya could be a man with Nykk?.

It was a hollow question to give voice. The Void stamped out what remained of the conflicted thoughts and feelings. Blessedly nothing remained when lifted his eyes.

"We should be gettin' on Accepted.Try yer hand. We've tarried too long as it were."

She would have to understand ...and if she didn't then it was more confirmation of his unworthiness.

She should have been the one paying more attention, after all Valadin had nearly been very sick. Betrys was reminded of how little she still knew about healing, it might well be a sensible idea to spend more time with the Yellow Ajah and learn about all the things they knew on the subject. While Betrys knew healing Weaves could be dangerous, she retained that same intense need to help others, even in spite of the risks that could be associated with those efforts.

Betrys held suddenly still.

Not sure how to move or react and then she was suddenly upright and alone. Parted from his warmth and confused about whether or not she should apologise or laugh it off. It would have been much, much easier if Betrys had been more certain or confident of her own feelings and how she should handle them. However, Betrys really didn't imagine that it made any sort of sense to dwell on it for any length of time - Valadin was probably just upset at being pinned to the ground by some slip of a girl "I'm fine. I-I felt that ...well I think so? It sure is different from the feeling of the One Power I'm used tae" she murmured, working with a man was doubtless always going to end up being like that.

"I'm...I...umm did it feel better?" she asked.

Betrys wanted to know how he was feeling but at the same time she also didn't want to push him in a direction that he didn't want to go either. She wasn't capable of that sort of cruelty, so instead Betrys closed her eyes in that brief moment she needed to connect with the sensation of completeness that came with joining her being with warmth of the One Power that lay just under her skin, woven through her very soul. Betrys once more remembered how the first time it had come together, so easily and so naturally. Now she couldn't imagine ever not having this in her life - ironic given how frightened she'd been in the beginning "Just a moment" she murmured softly, the Weaves slipping into her grasp as she flung them out and under the landscape.

Once again she felt full and so much more than usual. No other type of use of the One Power felt this nature and proper and Betrys almost wished she could hold into it all the time. Almost. She knew that would be far too dangerous.

Betrys took his stones and whispered her Weave along them, encouraging them to return to their original location with the gentle grace of melody that only she heard and used to shape together with the One Power "Are...ya alright?" she asked, her eyes returning to him as the thrum and pulse of the Power faded from her own vision.

Watching Betrys channel reminded Valadin of how little he knew of Saidin...of himself. So many dark corners existed. Entire sections of his soul unexplored out of fear or weakness. Being around the Accepted ...around his friend...it brought on self-inspection, something time as a slave had taught him never to do. As the ground grew still at his feet and Bee looked at Valadin with those too-large eyes the world slowed. For the blink of eye they were the only things in existence. Them, the Power, and the song of the dirt beneath them.

"Bee..." Valadin breathed uncertain of what words would come next. Terror and desired warred within him. Giving into the cowed beast that Master had trained from a young age would have been easy. Both their thirsts would've been slaked and the 'dancer's was something Valadin had done many times. "I..."

"Alright Soldiers! To class with you!" cried a voices not far off. It was answered by a forced cry of acknowledgement.

Soon a host of young men, some stripped to the waist came towards them at a job. Behind them was the Dedicated leading the training, Sword pin polished to a bright a bright silver shine. Valadin didn't know the man by name, but it seemed reputation had preceded him for the Dedicated spoke to him as if they brothers. "Hear Master Elonid has been making you wash his laundry. He's a mean one,but I wouldn't cross 'em. Them Black Tower mates can be downright scathe I've heard!"

Keeping aggravation from his words took effort. Soon the only wish Valadin had was to be away from here. This place wrought with confusion and mind games...this place where Bee was...

"Brother, I'm in need of a Healer. Would you see the Accepted safely to where she wishes to go?"

If the Dedicated sensed anything amiss he said nothing. Moments later he was Betrys' side, smiling wide to expose pearly white teeth. Valadin made for the Tower before Bee could protest, waving an abrupt goodbye as the Dedicated leaned in close to ask her something that looked like it made her blush. She'll never forgive me ... Valadin thought as he hurried away.

"Not that I deserve to be forgiven ..." he muttered to himself as the stone walls of the Tower enveloped him in their cold embrace.
