Conspiring Beasts?

Vance smiled and nodded his head as the Captain seemed to like the idea of her Lex and his Calamity befriending one another, though of course it would depend on the two mares if they decided to get along or not. They both seemed quite strong willed mares, and Vance liked that spirit in Calamity, and while he knew there would be a certain amount of breaking of her, he wanted her to keep that spirit and will she had inside her. And Light help any Shadowspawn that got close to her.

The older mare was looking and sounding more and more impatient, and Vance chuckled as Calamity then answered that one whinny with one of her own. "That is true Captain, but if she is going to learn those habits from someone, I'd rather them be from your mount than someone else's." He was not buttering the woman up, it was just honesty.

He chuckled at the way the Captain shouted out to the Mare, and he shook his head with an amused smile. "No getting any idea's, miss Calamity, I know you are listening."

Riahana grinned, "Well then. . .let's see about giving them a proper introduction. I'll leave Lex in the pasture, so they can meet across the fence first. If that seems to go well, then perhaps the next time we're both out here, we can see how they do turned out in the same pasture for grazing." She nodded towards the pasture fence that Lex was currently pacing and started walking that way slowly, "I would say we could do that today, but I intend to get a good morning ride in before attending to my other duties in the Yard."

As the trio approached the pasture, Lex stopped pacing. The bay watched the three approach and had her ears forward. She let go a soft whinny and stuck her head over the fence. "She's curious about Calamity...that or she's just overly eager for the apple slices she knows I've got in my pocket."

Sounds like a plan, Stan...

Vance nodded his head as he watched his Captain make her way towards her own mount, Lex. Riahana spoke a lot of sense when it came to their introduction, and he could see that he was cutting into her riding time. He felt bad about that, taking her her time when he guessed she probably had less free time than he did. "That sounds like a wise plan, Captain. I am sorry I..we took up your time." He was not being snarky, he was genuinely sorry.

He led Calamity forward, patting the fillys neck gently. Her ears were moving all over the place, and she was letting out soft grunts as she did. He guessed she was nervous about meeting the larger mare, so he continued to comfort her until they were a foot away from the larger mare. Calamity let out a soft whinny and moved her nose closer, almost touching the mares. She was bold, just as her name suggested.

Riahana cast a side-long glance at the Vance and smirked, "Do not feel the need to apologize, Drin'far'ji', when it was I who intruded on your time with your filly. I am not so busy that I do not have five minutes or so to spare to speak with one of our warders-in-training, especially if said Drin' has a new filly he intends to train. I dare say out of most of us in the Yards, I am likely to have more experience working with horses than all but a select few, thanks to my family, and it is my pleasure to lend assistance to those who wish it." As she spoke, the Gaidar Captain's smirk became a smile.

When the trio were at the fence by Lex, Ria went to one side of her horse and reached over the fence to scratch the beast just behind her ears. Lex gave her own soft whinny and reached her nose forward to give the filly a good sniff. The sniff turned to snuffles as Lex got a sense for the little one, but all the while her ears remained perked up and pointing forward. A light breeze came through, rustling leaves, manes and tails alike, but neither filly nor mare took any notice.

There was a gleam in Ria's eyes as she continued to scratch Lex's mane, "A very promising first meeting. I dare say there is no reason we can't let them spend time in a pasture together either tomorrow or...perhaps even when we are done with our morning ride a bit later."

A Bonding Of Sorts

Vance looked to Riahana as she spoke, excusing him from keeping her time, and again speaking of being the best one here to aid him in training Calamity in the best of ways. He nodded to the woman, not always sure what to say to her. He was lit that with many people, he did not always know what to say to fill the silence. His Father had not believed in Wasted Words as he called it, as words travelled on the wind, and you never knew where that wind would blow. They were words he had lived by for a long time, well his whole life. "Thank you Captain."

Vance stroked Calamity in much the same way as Riahana comforted her own mount as the two mares sized one another up, and and by the end of it obviously came to an understanding. He was proud of his filly, she seemed to have a growing intelligence that he did not always see in other mounts. Maybe Calamity could see the merits of having an older...friend, mother like figure, guardian? Who knew what a Horse really thought.

When Riahana spoke of letting them sit in pasture together, he nodded his head. "I am afraid it may have to be tomorrow, Captain. I have to be gone soon, I have an hour with the tree cutters before I then go to a staff lesson with Garren Gaidin, and then I have to work on my fitness level with Sarkaska Gaidin." He had asked for the extra chores, even come up with his schedule to prove that he was back and dedicated to the Grey Tower once again.

Riahana offered the young man another smile and a nod, "Ah yes. . .the work of a Drin' is never done. As it is, I too must get on with my day. The two beasties have met, and seem to get along. I do not expect any issues with the pair of them spending pasture time together tomorrow." She reached out and gave Calamity a pet before looking back to Vance, "Good luck with the rest of your day. . .it sounds as if you have your work cut out for you between the wood cutters and two Gaidin."

With that, the Gaidar Captain turned to her mount and pointed to the barn, "Alright you impatient beast, you. To the barn with you!" Lex gave a low whinny before trotting off to the gate at the far end of the pasture. Ria ducked into the pasture to cut across, but paused a few steps in to turn back and give Vance a wave before continuing on her way.

((OOC: Thank you for the post. I realized that Ria might come off as boastful with her equine skills. . .she's not a very boastful person, and nor am I. . .it was more her...stating a fact, if you will. Feel free to tap me for any other posts. :) ))
