An unfortunate event
The tall man moves into the Warder’s Training Yards. This is a place he is accustomed to, but only spends time in when he must. Unlike many Channelers here, he had no desire to find a Warder, or to gape over them like the Novices seem to do. The one Warder he has is more than enough to suit his needs. However, a weapon unused is one swiftly lost, even if that weapon is one’s own body. Since his return to the Tower, he had been more than busy in the Infirmary, once again having to regain his reputation, to prove that he knows what he’s doing. It’s been more than irritating. Perhaps a few hours losing himself to the motions of bodily exertion will help.
Bright green eyes beneath a thin, sculptured line of black brow scan the Yards. Though his face is as composed (some would say blank) as always, one would get the sensation of being judged if that gaze fell upon them. This would be quite correct. He looks at the potential sparring partners, ticking them off in his mind as he goes Useless, useless, more likely to stab himself than his opponent, couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn. Who even *uses* that weapon these days? He scoffs as he watches them, eyes continuing to scan.

Re: An unfortunate event

Novices were not supposed to pay with weapons, apparently, as Ember had been reminded of more than once recently, and yet here she was. No one believed her that she just felt naked without the Sai on her, they thought they were simply trying to be difficult. Well, she was in some ways, but not in this. She had played with Sai since she had been a child, and had always known just how to use them, like Lyselle Goldendawn, the hero of the horn. Not that she ever thought she could be as good as that legendary figure, but she could dream, couldn't she?
She had borrowed a Drin outfit, and snuck into the training grounds one free period. She had hidden her Sai on the grounds, they were not being taken away from her, and she had retrieve them now for some exercise. She was sure she was getting fat and sloppy without the practice. Finding her own small area, Ember began to go through the warm up routine, her Sai in hand, as she reacquainted herself with the weight of her missed weapons. Her eyes were closed as she moved through the forms, loosening up her body.

Re: An unfortunate event
Caddoc’s eyes fell on the Drin as she entered the Yards. This was one that he didn’t remember seeing before...but then he didn’t care enough to pay all that much attention. Still, most of the Drin made their way into the Infirmary at one point or another, and he had never seen this one. Perhaps she was new? For a moment he watched her, and one brow lifted ever so slightly as she closed her eyes for her forms. This spoke of a familiarity with her weapon that most in her uniform didn’t possess. And speaking of her weapons… What in the Light were those things? Silent, he stayed where he was and only observed the woman, head tilted gently to the side, green eyes dancing in a way his face never did. Then he moved forward.
His feet were nearly silent on the packed earth, though they echoed with a sharp click when he was on the tiled floors of the Tower. He stopped a safe distance away (she had her eyes closed and he didn’t want to be stabbed with those...forks) and cleared his throat to get her attention. When she’d open her eyes she’d see an extremely tall and slender man. He wore a deep blue suit at the moment, with tails that flared out to either side of his hips, and a bright yellow frock of cloth at his throat. His posture was so straight it was severe, and his face was extremely composed. His eyes seemed to dance with the emotion he was unable to express, however. At his hip was a sword, only one, long and slender and nearly reaching his ankle. There was no peace tie upon it. His hair was long, nearly to his hips, and tied in a ribbon as yellow as his frock. The suit came up to the neck, the cuffs to the backs of the hands. His boots were high and hid beneath his slacks, so that the only flesh he showed was that of his fact and his hands, nothing more.

Re: An unfortunate event

As she moved, her motions became more fluid, as her muscles remembered what it was they were supposed to do. This felt good, right, and as she moved she pictured the rose in her mind and knew if she let the petals open she would feel Saidar. But she held back, knowing she would be punished twice over if she was caught in a Drin outfit and embracing Saidar. She didn't want more lashes if she could help it. Her red hair was pulled back into a sloppy bun at the back of her head, wisps surrounding her face and neck. She was short, no taller than 5'2",but looked plump with her short height and busty figure. Her fingers were long and slender, and at the cough (which made her freeze and open her eyes) they could be seen to be emerald green.
They snapped on the guy before her, the one who at first glance looked to have a stick up his butt, and she stood to attention, or at least what she thought attention was. He wore no sign of rank, and he had a gaudy style of dress. "May I help you, my Lord?" When in doubt, stick to formality, easier that way. Her hands moved her Sai into their leather sheaths either side as she spoke, her voice cool and calm sounding. Fake it till you make it.

Re: An unfortunate event
My Lord… The title mad his lips quirk ever so much at the edges (it wasn’t the kindest of smiles) but no more. And he did not correct her. After all… what should he be called? He wasn’t quite a Soldier, wasn’t yet an Asha’man. He let the title hand in the air as his eyes moved from her hands (she sheathed well, no snags or hang ups, and she didn’t have to look at him while she did it) up to her chest (round enough to make the rest of her look a little plump, very nice) before finally touching her eyes. There they stayed. Apparently one glance was enough for his memory.
Lifting a hand containing a finely seen to set of fingernails, he touched the pommel of his sword and his brow quirked ever so slightly in question. “Would you like to spar?” he asked. His voice, like his face and clothing, was melodious, almost perfectly pitched...but distant and cold. For all his study of her chest, he did not sound like a man that was interested in anything other than trying out his skills on the young woman…

Re: An unfortunate event

She noted the lack of address from him, if he was a noble he would have given over family name and rank, if he was an Asha'man he would gab few corrected her, as would have a Gaidin. And while his face held the warmth of a stone, he didn't look made of the stuff, like the warders did, and she certainly had never seen a warder in yellow lace. What else she also noted was his eyes looking her up and down. If he liked what he saw, she didn't know it, but she continued to take him in anyway. You could never know too much about your audience.
His request surprised her, and it showed in her eyes before she regained her control. "If it would please my Lord, I would like that." She eyed his blade, his soft and clean looking hands and raised one red brow, but said nothing as she removed her Sai from her sheaths and twirled them in her hand. "My Lord, I must enquire if you have sparred a Sai holder before?" This was Ember being nice, not everyone understood the weapon, and she believed in fair play. Though it was almost a foul for a man to be as pretty as that naturally. It was a little distracting.

Re: An unfortunate event
Again, the use of the term ‘Lord’ seemed to bring the quickest flash of amusement from him. He supposed, in a way, it was correct. He *was* from Tear, and his family was a minor Noble House… But before his sister had used her mind (and her body) to lift them back to former glory, he had grown up in the mud streets outside the famous city. Those flashing green eyes seemed to take in her hesitant glance to his hands. Another tiny look of amusement and he removed his hand from his hilt, turning it over. There, one would see the callouses of any long termed swordsman. He said nothing else, allowing this proof to speak for itself.
“I have not.” he answered, moving into the ring. He did not remove the lace, which most would have. Even if it didn’t get in the way, it would be something easy to grab on to in a fight...but for some reason he left the frock at his throat undisturbed. “I was unaware of what they were called. Though I shall make a point of researching these...Sais… in the library at a near future date.” He spoke with the same functional pomp with which he moved, watching her closely as he moved into the ring. “Though you seem to have a familiarity with the weapons that speaks of long use…”

Re: An unfortunate event

Yeah, there is was again. That look of amusement at her using the title to him, well what else was she supposed to call him. Bob? Fread? Matt? He had given her no name, and no title, and so she was doing the best she could. When he flashed her the palm of his hand, she noticed the callouses, and guessed he had done that on purpose. Was it to show her that he was a good swordsman? Or had he seemed her look and disliked the judgement he had seen. She was not good at hiding the looks in her eyes, it was those looks that usually got her into more trouble than anything else. She simply nodded her head once to his display of his hard worn callouses, what was she supposed to say? Well done?
When he claimed to not know what her weapons were, she smiled a little. He may indeed look into them in the Library, but today was going to be a rise awakening for him. And she was trying not to look smug about it. She noticed that he was not undressing for this bout, and she wondered if he really did mean to spar with all that lace on his body. How odd. “I’ve carried them as long as I can remember.” She shrugged her shoulders, “I truly feel quite naked without them.” Ember took up a position before him, wanting to get this spar started quickly before someone realised that she should not be there. “Shall we then, my Lord?” She spoke a little excitedly, her Sai ready, as she bowed before him, and the flashed him a grin as she took up her guard.

Re: An unfortunate event
Caddoc bowed his head in acquiescence and stepped further into the circle. He moved until he was across from the girl, taking his appropriate spot. He turned half to the side, his shoulder closer to her than his chest. His right hand (his off hand) was next to his hip and loosely hung there. His left hand was ever so calmly hovering above the hilt of his sword. He looked at her, head turned towards her as his knees bent slightly to keep his balance. “Take your mark, Drin.” he said, gesturing for her to have the first strike.

Re: An unfortunate event

She watched as he came in closer, and did not pre-draw his sword. Was he that confident? More than likely, after all she was short, a girl and brandishing forks, or that was how most people saw it. When he told her to take her Mark, she smiled, and while meeting his eyes, she took a step in closer, her Sai coming up, trying to predict where his sword would come up. It was a risky move, but then he was bound to not take it easy on her, he did not have the look of someone who would take it easy on her just cause she was a girl. She moved her feet in a way to try and trip him once she caught his sword, if she caught his sword.
