Felessan Solonne
Image
It wasn't often the Gaidan was surprised, but when he felt the heel of the man's boots his his hand he gave a small yelp of surprise, but didn't let go. "Oi!" He exclaimed, before giving a high pitched whistle, attracting the attention of the three men who were walking by. "Hand?" Felessan called out to the guys who all nodded and moved forward. His hands let go of both spears, and rolled away from him, rubbing his hand that had been kicked as he climbed to his feet. "You're solid in one on one, so let's see how you do against a group. We're really going to test you here Terric." He held his hand down to the Aiel, not only so that he could have his spear back, but so that he could help him up.

"Let's restart, us four against you." The Gaidan said, before gesturing to the others. One was wielding a bastard sword, another was holding a morning star and shield, while the last was holding what seemed to be a blacksmiths hammer. However this hammer was clearly not one that was easily wielded as the man who held it looked rather like a mountain. "If you can best even two of us in this fight, you'll find great respect here." Felessan spoke with confidence as he got his ashendarei back. Once he was back out at his western position, with the sword wielder at the north, Hammer at the East, and MorningStar at the south, Felessan once again bowed to the Aiel man, and then stood in his low guard position. It was Hammer that made the first move, hoisting the hammer onto his shoulder and stepping forward quickly to slam the hammer down towards the Aiel. It would be easy to dodge, given how large the weapon was, and if Terric dodged towards MorningStar, he would be finding a shield in his path along with the padded ball coming towards him. Should Terric dodge towards the Bastard Sword, there would be a swing coming down low for him. And finally if Terric chose to just dodge backwards towards Felesaan, the Gaidan was going to try and grab a hold of him with his ashendarei's haft across his neck.

Terric
Terric let out a slightly incredulous laugh as the four men fanned out to surround him. He tried to keep track of the men as they began advancing on him. A large man with a hammer swung it towards him in a mighty arch. He dodged between him, diving into a shoulder roll over a low swing from a man wielding a practice sword. He landed, turning to stab at Swordsman’s kidney.

He danced back careful to keep his guard up. When fighting multiple opponents, his objective would be to keep them from surrounding him and to keep them tripping over each other. The men would be recovering from his unexpected maneuver so he went on the offensive. He charged, buckler up, spear in a stabbing grip and rushed Hammer. Staying to close to allow the man to put strength behind a swing, he closed with a flurry of stabs.

He tried to pull the Void around him but realized, he didn’t have a thing to feed the flame. When he fought like this, everything was right with the world. No doubts. No anxiety, No failure. Just a man, his spear and the enemy. He finished his attack, sidestepping to place his back to the east side of the courtyard. Sometimes it was worth enjoying the little things in life. He stood at a defensive mid, preparing for the counter attack.

Felessan Solonne
Image
It was apparent that the three men had fought with each other as they flowed around each other nearly flawlessly. Felessan was the odd man out here, but he was careful. Sword knocked the spear off to the side, and moved to press his attack, but the Aiel moved off, and got aggressive. It wasn't something they had expected, but they were capable of rolling with the Aiel so to speak. When Terric went on Hammer, it was to find himself suddenly against Morningstar and Shield. It was merely a distraction as Hammer pulled his weapon back up, and swung again, but Terric wasn't there. Felessan was apt to move as he leapt forward to bring forth his ashanderai again, swinging it at Terric, before Sword was again attacking, following up on Felessan's swing.

Following up behind them, the men kept attempting to circle Terric and not let him out again. Spread in a semi circle, each man continue to agress onto the Aiel man. Though he was proving to be quite formidable, with very few of their attacks coming close let alone getting anywhere with hitting them. Something that Felessan somewhat expected, but still found it rather surprising. The Gaidan and his friends were pressed to keep up the aggression on the Aiel, to keep him from escaping their semi circle. They needed to force him into submission and force him to yield. Once he yielded they were done, and he would be able to submit the evaluation.

Terric
The men worked as a unit as they tried to keep Terric surrounded. They fanned out into a semi-circle and began advancing cautiously. A rictus grin pulled his lips apart. Usually he’d be veiled showing only a glint in his eyes, but today, they would see the whole thing. He sprung to the left, placing himself to the outside of their formation, face to face with Morning star. The man brought his shield up to knock away Terric’s spear and retaliated with a swing of his own which Terric dodged back from. He caught movement out of the corner of his eye. Swordsman had crept around them and was attacking from behind on Terric’s right. He swung his spear back in a maneuver he would never have used against a live blade. Thankfully, it was a practice blade, lathes of bamboo made a cracking noise as Terric blocked with the haft of his spear. He turned on Swordsman, swinging the spear like a baton bringing the haft down on his hand with a sick thud. The man let out a cry letting go of the sword with his right hand. Terric didn’t give him time to recover, he trust the practice spear, stopping less than an inch from jabbing it into his opponent’s neck.

As the man yielded, Terric turned raising his buckler to see the other three fighter’s advancing in formation with Morningstar in the lead, shield head in a defensive position. Felessan Solonne held his spear over Morningstar’s left shoulder advancing like a phalanxman. Hammer edged to the right trying to pincer him. He backed up a few paces and charged forward. With a plan he himself considered more stupid than brilliant, he leapt into the air kicking out with both feet towards the shield. He hit the top of the shield forcing the unsuspecting Gaidin to stager back and fall. As the men fell in a heap, Felessan Solonne thrust his spear into the madness with a quip Terric missed. He managed to twist aside but the practice spear grazed his ribs tangling in his coat. His landing was less than graceful and he felt his ankle twist and buckle. He went to a knee but quickly thrust behind him hitting Morningstar in clavicle. Two down, that’s all I need. He thought to himself. Why not? I can go for four.

He brought his buckler up to catch a blow from Hammer. He managed to deflect most of it but he felt the shock radiating up into his shoulder. He was pulled off balance as Felessan Solonne pulled his spear free. He used his spear to stop himself from falling and pushed himself to his feet, ankle throbbing. As he did, Hammer and Felssan Solonne launched into a coordinated attack, Hammer’s wide sweeping strikes aimed to force Terric into the path of Felessan Solonne’s darting ashanderai[. Terric back peddled dodging and parrying. He realized he could take advantage of their close proximity. He sidestepped placing his enemies in a line in front of him. Felessan Solonne slashed and thrusted with his bladed spear but Hammer couldn’t reach his opponent, instead he was forced to step around his partner.

Terric took advantage, lunging forward with his buckler, swinging it parallel to the ground at Felessan Solonne’s eyes. When he flinched back, Terric followed with a thrust towards the gut. The Gaidin managed to twist out of the way. He was extremely nimble, despite his size. Terric sidestepped again, keeping Hammer behind Felessan Solonne. He pressed the advantage. Lifting his spear and buckler to a defensive mid, he stuck forward, spear flicking out like a viper attacking high and low, seemingly at random.

Felessan Solonne was forced to back, using both ends of his spear like a quarter staff to ward off the attacks. He noticed that Terric was favoring on ankle. He twirled the spear, slashing at Terric’s head. Terric easily ducked under it bringing his buckler into a high guard. Felessan Solonne was not done. He carried the slash though into a spin. He passed the spear to his left hand with the butt facing out. He ended the spin on one knee, empty right hand back. The spear haft struck Terric’s injured ankle with a resounding crack.

Pain shot up Terric’s leg and he let out a growl. This would not become his spar with Danos al’Sheen. Hiding his pain behind his rictus grin, he forced it into the Flame, desperately trying to pull the Void around himself. There, the pain was distant now, like it had happened to another man. He fed his pride to the Flame next. This was just another fight. Things seemed to slow down outside the Void as he counter attacked. He felt a spike of pain outside the Void as he pivoted on his injured ankle. He brought the other foot down in a stomp kick on his opponent’s spear haft. He didn’t manage to break Fellessan Solonne’s iron grip but he did throw him off balance. He stepped of the spear with his good foot, planted it and brought his left up in a round house kick aimed at the man’s face.

As Fellessan Solonne fell forward, he saw the kick arcing towards his face, he tried to bring his right arm up to defend but it was too late, he head jerked back with the massive impact. Terric’s ankle screamed anew, almost enough to shatter the Void. He let the pain wash around the outside of the Void, and struck the Gaidin in the back with his training spear before he could recover. As Fellessan Solonne yielded and dropped to the ground, Terric caught a blur out of the corner of his eye. He had forgotten about Hammer, he realized as the padded hammer stuck him across the jaw. He felt himself twisted to the side and staggering. In a real fight that blow would have killed him or at least severely inconvenienced him. He let himself drop to a knee and threw his hands up in submission. He ran is tongue across is teeth to make sure they were still in place. One molar was loose but somehow, thankfully, he had still had not lost one. He could feel blood inside his mouth and was thankful for the Void. A memory surfaced and was gone: a younger Terric straddling a suspect, blood dripping from him mouth, in a blind rage, threatening to force the bridge of the suspect’s nose into his brain. He fed that memory to the Flame before letting the Void recede. He could hear Fellesssan Solonne laughing has he pulled himself to his feet. Terric couldn’t help it, rubbing his cheek, he began to laugh as well.
OOC: If we need to ad more to the word count or just ad more stuff we can add more RP or have them meet for a second day after a Yellow sees to his ankle and they do try something like a two on two fight.
Despite his aching jaw and ankle, Terric was quite pleased. He had managed to impress Fellessan Solonne and his fellow Gaidin. They had agreed to meet again in a few days to try a team match. He was quite excited for this opportunity, it had been a long time since he had fought alongside other skilled warriors. So far most of the Drin classes were monotonous basics or one on one spars. He was eager to prove his worth as a warrior. Maybe he would be allowed to train the Ji or even the full Gaidin once Fellessan Solonne submitted his evaluation to the Mistress of Arms. Because of this, he had insisted on continuing the evaluation past a single day.

As he limped to the infirmary, he considered which of the four Gaidin he would choose for his team. His first thought was Fellessan Solonne because he would feel good with another spearman by his side. Upon further reflection, he decided it probably would be for the best if he chose another and let the evaluator face him on the battle field. Morningstar was his second choice, he would have to learn the men’s names. The man’s weapon and shield tactics would lend themselves well to a team battle. They could both keep their shields up to guard each other while they fought.

Pleased with his choice of partners, he pushed open the doors to the infirmary. They were surprisingly light, probably so patients on stretchers could be quickly rushed through. He looked around for the Yellow on duty and found himself face to face with a familiar Aes Sedai. The Yellow Sister who had healed him after his match with Danos al’Sheen. Too new to the Shawl for the ageless look, her face was pretty without being beautiful. Her large, almond shaped eyes regarded him skeptically, “How did you get hurt this time, Terric?”

He was surprised she remembered his name, then again, there weren’t many Aiel in the tower. He hadn’t caught her name however. “Who says I’m hurt?” he said adopting an air of nonchalance.

“Well you look like somebody took a hammer to your pretty face, and you’re limping. Come sit down,” she said guiding him to one of the hospital beds.

Terric limped along slightly incredulous. Why do these Wetlander women keep calling my face pretty? He would have assumed they would all swoon over milk faced lordlings. He shifted as she placed her hands on his head. “Forgive me, Aes Sedai, but I never caught your name.”

“Leona Rosvani,” she said. Her lips quirked up into a slightly wicked smile, “You get hurt so often, Terric. One would wonder if you’re doing it on purpose.”

Terric was sure of two things: that her far smile was much more than just pretty and that this conversation was treading very close to inappropriate sands. He cleared his throat, glancing towards a Dedicated making beds on the other end of the room.

Leona Rosvani’s eyes darted to the Dedicated and her very un-Aes Sedai blush turned her pale face a shade of crimson. Terric felt the now familiar jolt of healing, like walking out of a sweat tent at night. The young Yellow stepped back, self-aware about how close she had been standing to the Drin. “On with you,” she tried to snap, embarrassment overwhelming any sense of authority, “before I have you sweeping floors.” She paused, “In the Entrance Hall,” she added thinking of a place far from the Infirmary.

Terric leapt to his feet, his ankle miraculously healed. He sketched a quick Aiel bow before turning and quickly making his way to the exit. He didn’t think it would be fair to be punished for her indiscretions so he beat a hasty retreat. He could swear he felt her eyes on his back as he left the Infirmary.

Felessan Solonne
Image
Felessan had set up another day for them to continue their evaluation, so that they could really see what the Aiel man really knew. The Gaidan glanced over at Morning star, whose name was Carlton, and grinned. "You were picked as his partner, likely because of your use of the shield and morning star. He's a bright man, someone who would be very well suited here." Felessan said as Carlton grinned back at the other man. "This doesn't surprise me at all. He is as you said, very bright. And he's likely to be very well suited for the Tower. I doubt that many people could have held up against us the way he did."

"Had they been real weapons there's a good chance that he would have died, but he's got great potential." Felessan said as they waited with Henderson who wielded the hammer and Bentaro, whom had wielded the bastard sword. Henderson was merely there to watch the outcome, it would be Bentaro and Felessan versus Carlton and Terric. Once the Aiel man showed up, all stood up briefly nodding to him. "We see you Terric, may you find shade this day." All four of them said in unison. Carlton stepped forward and bowed to Terric slightly. "I heard from Felessan that you wished to be partnered with me for this portion of the evaluation. They've allowed us a short time to strategize. If you will come over with me for a short time?" He asked as he walked over to the side, and worked out a strategy.

Once they had it set up, Felessan and Bentaro drew their weapons, advancing on the pair. "Fight well, and like it's to the death." Felessan said as he dashed forward to attack Terric with a very obvious sweep attack, and Bentaro was following up with a thrust from behind Felessan, using the man's body as a shield to attack Terric as well.

Terric
Neither Terric nor Carlton felt the need to devise an overly complex strategy. They were both experienced enough to know that plans never lasted long once the fighting started. The secret to winning was flexibility. There weren’t quite enough of them to form a proper shield wall or even a wedge, but that wouldn’t stop them from working as a shield pair. Simply watching each other’s back and hopefully using each other to pin their opponents.

Apparently, Felessan Solonne had chosen the man with the bastard sword, Bentaro to be his partner for this fight. With little preamble both men charged Terric. Carlton intercepted Felessan Solonne’s slash. The big Gaidin, with his longer weapon, had made the mistake of closing the distance first. While Bentaro was protected, his range was severely hampered. Terric capitalized on this set back by stabbing over his partner’s shield in hopes of knocking out some of the competition. Carlton did his best to capitalize on Terric’s momentum by using his shield to shove Felessan Solonne back and struck out with his morning star trying to catch the man in the chest.

Terric felt a spike of exhilaration as they pressed their attack, if they could keep up this momentum they would have this fight wrapped up in no time.

Felessan Solonne
Image
Felessan slammed his hands against the shield that came his way and ducked down to avoid the spear that came for him. Allowing his body to drop, he rolled out of the way, and Bentaro showed up blocking the morning star with his bastard sword in both hands. Gaining his feet again, Felessan was now behind the pair of shields, and primed for attack. Spinning his ashanderai he attacked their backs, fully expecting them to turn and stop him. Once they did that, Bentaro was ready for another attack.

Swinging his sword in the opposite direction from Felessan, the man would be quick to throw a kick in as well, trying to knock one of them to their knees by going for the back of their knee caps while they weren't expecting it. It didn't matter which one he got, if they could incapcitate one, then they had the advantage. Bentaro would love to focus his friend Carlton, but he also knew that he had to give credit and respect to the Aiel man, for he was proving to be quite the contest.

Terric
Teamwork can give one a sizable advantage over even a superior foe. Poor teamwork could be disastrous. Terric saw this first hand as he spun to confront Felessan Solonne. He battled the big Gaidin back expecting Carlton to keep Bastard Sword occupied. To his dismay, Carlton also turned to fight Felessan Solonne leaving their backs open to attack from Bentaro and his bastard sword. The kick came out of nowhere striking Terric in the back of the knee. The leg buckled and he dropped to his own knee as a practice sword whooshed overhead. As soon as his knee touched the sand he was throwing himself into a side roll, extricating himself from scrum.

Terric didn’t plan to leave his partner to fall alone. As he came out of his roll, he gripped his spear a few inches below the head in a reversed grip and dug his feet into the sand. With an explosive lunge, Terric slammed his shoulder into Felessan Solonne’s lower back. The impact on his shoulder felt like hitting a cliff face, but if previous experience had taught him anything, the big man was easy to knock over. So he pressed the attack. Wielding his spear not unlike a knife, he executed a series of brutal stabs towards the man’s ribs and back.

Felessan Solonne
Image
Felessan and Bentaro saw the mistake in an instant. They capatilized on the mistake instantly, with Terric ducking out after having his knee kicked in. Turning around, Bentaro and Felessan pushed their advantage, causing Carlton to yield. The moment Carlton yielded, Felessan was launched forward with the Aiel man trying to stab him. Forever eternally grateful for practice weapons, both Felessan and Bentaro tried to get a hold of the Aiel and stop him. Managing to roll over onto his back, Felessan was trying to fend off the stabs, and Bentaro was trying to get a hold of the Aiel's arms to stop him. It was a challenge, but finally Bentaro got a hold of the Aiel man. "We yield. Stop trying to stab him." He said, as Felessan sat up, rubbing his side with a hard wince.

"Ah, well done Terric. That was impressive." He said, before he stood up. "Your reactions are well timed, and very responsive. I really wish that I had more experience fighting Aiel, it's been quite interesting trying to keep track of you." Felessan picked up his ashendarei and leaned against it. "And your coordination with other people is very strong. Many people who come here believe that they have to do everything on their own, and try to show off. You've done well with this. We look forward to your growth here at the Tower." Carlton said with a smile at the Aiel drin'far'ji.

Terric
Terric pushed himself free of Felessan Solonne and pushed himself into a sitting position. No broken bones; that went better than his spar with Danos at least. The warders all thought he’d given an excellent showing. That was good, he needed this evaluation to go well.

“Anybody can just learn how to fight,” he said from the ground, “A true warrior needs to learn to fight as part of a team. It’s central to the way Aiel fight. I didn’t mean to leave you in the middle of that mess, Carlton. Your friends dance well and I wasn’t fast enough.” He climbed to his feet and extended a hand to Felessan Solonne. These Wetlanders were impressive warriors. One day he would be a full Gaidin like them. Well better, Terric was still an Aielman. Some biases died hard.

He gave the men an Aiel bow, “Thank you for being my evaluators. Let’s just hope the Mistress of Arms agrees with your assessment.” Carlton and his mates left, making plans to meet at a tavern in town. Felessan Solonne had other duties and dismissed him without wasting small talk.

As he crossed the yards to change uniforms before his next class, he couldn’t help but remember a younger man, learning the spear for the first time. Would the young man he’d been then recognize the man he had become, let alone want to become him? These were doubts for another time, he had just finished his evaluation. He should focus on the here and now: pat himself on the back and get back to training.
