Welcome to the Gardens: one of the most tranquil areas of the Tower Grounds. Birds sing in the trees which line the wide paths between beautiful flower beds and serene lakes. There are benches to sit and listen to the waterfall, and there is neatly trimmed grass to lie on and rest. Novices and Soldiers as well as Warders in Training can be seen, sweeping the stone paths as Accepted and Dedicated study from books and relax under leafy trees.

Accepted Liaran (and dog)
Perched on the edge of the one of the benches in the gardens, Liaran was careful to keep a close eye on the dog she'd brought to the Tower. She could run faster than any animal the Accepted had ever seen, and wasn't always careful when she did. The dog flew through the grass, clearly chasing after some sort of prey. When she caught it, the dog turned and raced toward the Accepted, dragging its bloody catch along in its mouth. She flopped down beside Liaran, leaning against the woman's legs. Liaran reached a hand down to pet the dog's head. "Looks like you caught your dinner," she said to the dog, who had stretched her front paws out and begun to dismember the rabbit she'd caught.

With the dog busy eating, Liaran returned her attention to the library book she had brought which sat on the bench beside her. The dog gave a whine of protest, looking up at the Accepted with her large dark eyes, but Liaran ignored her. She had to, at times, if she wanted to get any work done. Shadow certainly is an appropriate name for her, she thought to herself. One of her students had named the dog, not her, but Liaran had to admit that the name fit. While the dog crunched on rabbit bones, the Accepted read a couple of chapters in her book. It was much easier to do that outside now, with Shadow for once focused on something besides her. The Accepted withdrew into her work, only looking up when she realized that she no longer felt the pressure of the dog leaning against her legs. The bones of the dog's dinner lay on the ground, but the dog herself wasn't anywhere nearby.

Liaran's dark eyes scanned the gardens, looking for her. The dog could care for herself, she wasn't worried abut that, but Shadow didn't often roam too far from her side. She quickly located the animal running around in circles not too far away. The Accepted smiled and returned to her reading, pleased to see the dog entertaining herself for once. When she looked up again to check on her, the dog had laid down on one of the paths, rolling over with all four of her skinny legs in the air, tail thumping the ground. Liaran burst into laughter. "Shadow, you silly dog!" she said as she walked over to the animal. "You're going to have to move soon, people walk there!" The dog looked up at her, but otherwise made no move to leave her spot. Nobody was too close, so Liaran left her alone, hoping that anyone out for an evening walk would choose another pathway instead.
