A coincidental meeting (ATTN: ANGEL)

The Tairen and the Cairhienin were an odd pair, but whenever the two of them were free, they could always be found together. Of course, it helped that neither of them had ever really cared one whit for their homeland *nor* the political ties that pulled the cities along. Today they were sitting in the gardens. They had been here almost half an hour, and other than the initial greetings neither had really spoken to each other. Sometimes it was that way. Of course, they didn’t *need* to. The bond between them spoke volumes at times. For Caddoc, with his mind spinning and dancing and cavorting in opposite directions, the dull nothing from Jeremiah was comforting. For Jeremiah, it was a burden…but one he had learned to utilize and grow accustomed to. As of yet they had not been discovered, and since they never spoke aloud of it, Caddoc suspected it would stay that way.

Currently he was running his fingers across the harp strings, idly playing on old song. He hadn’t had much chance to practice with the harp since returning to the Tower, and so he cherished the moment of quiet contemplation it brought with it. Closing his eyes, he leaned back on the darkly multicolored patchwork cloak and sang beneath his breath. He sang for his own enjoyment, nothing else, and so his voice stayed low and somber:

"T'was the worst of times...for tinkers like you and me.
So...in search of fortune I took to the sea.”

He leaned back a little bit more and lifted the tone of his voice, giving it a gentle falsetto, as if a woman was now singing:

"Round my neck a key, you said was to your heart.
Held it desperately as your ship left the dock"

Returning to his normal voice, he continued on with the chorus:

“I can't forget, I won't forgive this sea
for the endless hurt it gave to me.
I want to stab, I want to kill this sea.
Took you away, took you away, from me….”

He continued on with the tragic love song, which of course did not end in a happy finality, but instead a watery grave for the both of them, for the man a storm at sea on the way home, for the woman a leap off the cliff after years of no answer and a grown son that never knew his father. Silence reigned in the trees after the song was done, and Caddoc opened his eyes slowly. He did not jump when Jeremiah spoke. “The only time you are calm is when you sing.” The other stated in his blunt fashion. “Why?” Caddoc shook his head and gave a slow shrug. “I do not know.” Was all he could say in return. “But perhaps it takes to much of my attention for anything else….”

Angelique had a free moment as she moved between classes. Her next class was cancelled, something that happened rarely, but the teacher was either sick or out of Tower. Her hands clutched a book on advanced healing sciences to her chest as she walked through the Gardens looking for somewhere to sit and read where she wouldn't be disturbed. She gave a small sigh and breathed deep of the beautiful day, while she felt her bondmates presence in the back of her mind. It was a beautiful feeling to be so connected to him after having wondered for so long about what it would be like to be with him like this. The Novice was about to sit down when she heard the middle of the saddest tune she had ever heard, sung by a beautiful voice.

Her feet carried her towards the sound, and she peaked around the bushes to see two men under the shade. The Dedicated had been the one singing while the other man sitting next to him was just calmly listening, appearing to enjoy the distraction. But her green eyes recognized the fighter, it was Jeremiah, a friend of Garren's! A small smile graced her lips as she stepped out from behind the trees, gently rapping on the bark to get their attention. "Sorry for interrupting, but your singing caught my attention while I was looking for a place to read." She said softly, before smiling over at Jeremiah. It would be very apparent that she had been going to study healing, as the title of the book was facing the two men she was talking to. "If I wouldn't be a burden, could I sit with you, and listen to more of your singing while I study?" She asked, hoping that he wasn't going to turn her away. The Dedicated looked so familiar, she just couldn't place where she had seen him before. And it had to have been recently that she had seen him as well.

It was in the back of her mind, the tip of her tongue, but she wasn't sure where she had seen him before, nor what his name was. However, she did know Jeremiah, and so she knew she was safe. After all, if he let anything happen to her, Garren would be very...displeased. Her red hair was pulled back in a pony tail at the base of her skull, and that hair was braided to about her waist, her Novice whites pristine, and nearly glowing.

It was Jeremiah that noticed the approaching Novice first. His eyes swung instantly towards the sound of her approaching, his body growing still until his eyes fell upon her. Of course, he instantly recognized her, and Caddoc could tell by the other’s posture that this was so. He nodded his head in greeting, but did not smile, his posture so quiet and serious that he could have been the stereotypical model for any Gaidin. He looked to Caddoc, who had turned those green eyes to him in question. “This is Angelique.” He said in explanation. “A friend of Garren’s.” Caddoc’s lips gave the faintest of smiles, and he nodded, knowing there was more to that word than what was on the surface. He’d get it out of the other later, when they were in private again. Caddoc turned his eyes to Angel instead, and nodded. “You may join us.” He said, standing as he spoke. His body was long and lengthy, slender in all the right places, and taunt enough that he looked like a blade wrapped in a Dedicated’s uniform. Lifting the folded Gleeman’s cloak, he spread it out further, making room for the both of them to sit, since it was clear she cared about her dress as much as he did his own clothing, and the cloak made a good blanket to hide one from the leaves and dirt.

Settling himself back onto the ground, he watched the woman as she sat down as well, idly strumming his harp, a careless melody picking out into the wind. Even distracted, his fingers seemed to know their way around the instrument with confidence. He eyed the book in her hands with a bare cock of his head, looking like a bird of prey studying their next meal. His features were distant and almost cold, his gestures slightly flirtatious but in an arrogant way, and his eyes seemed bits of stone that occasionally flashed with a strange, unexplained green fire. “Are you going into Yellow?” He asked pointedly. “Or Brown or Indigo perhaps, and are only interested in the knowledge instead of the practical use?”

Angelique smiled warmly at Caddoc and Jeremiah, nodding her thanks for his introduction. It was nice to be allowed to stay with those who were ahead of her in rank. His body was long, and she gently bit her lip in appreciation. She might be Garren's, but she wasn't dead. Her heart still beat, blood still flowed. It was interesting to see a gleeman's cloak being spread out, but she chose not to question it. She moved down and folded her legs under her body before she moved the book onto her lap and opened it to her marked place. "Thank you for allowing me to join you." She smiled softly humming with his idle strumming.

She glanced up at Caddoc for a moment before she was a bit taken back by his gestures and his eyes. "Um, yes I plan on going to the Yellow when I take my second raising test." she replied a little taken back. "I...I recently discovered that I was able to heal without much issues or taxation on my strength, so I wanted to put that to good use." Her voice was a little out of sorts, before she glanced down at her book again. "But I feel like we can know more about our bodies to properly heal people without taxing our bodies with constantly healing others. Are you also aspiring to Yellow? I've seen you around the Infirmary a few times, but you never seem injured." Her finger marked her place in the book again, and she looked up at him, before her mind placed who he was. It was Caddoc Svan.

"And if it's not too forward, what is it like to heal while channeling Saidan?" she asked, watching him carefully, very curious about who he was, and what more she could learn about him.

Caddoc watched the young woman fluster and stutter before him, and was not surprised. Most women (and some men) reacted to his attentions in this way, especially if they didn’t have time to get to the know him. He gave a small smile, a grin from any other man, and his eyes flashed with interest. Jeremiah watched impassively, though Caddoc felt his eyes sharpen on them suddenly. “I am.” He said, nodding his head. “It has never been a question for me, to choose the Yellow Ajah. Healing is what I am gifted with. I am good at him.” His smirk remained as he added. “More than good. I excel where so many others are merely adequate.” He leaned back, his fingers still strumming the harp slowly. “Personally, I have found studying the body, and not simply how the One Power can be used upon it, to help immensely. Weaves are all well and good of course, and it is the core of Healing yes, but understanding the why of it, and not just the how is what allows me to pull away from the rest of the herd. If you wish to be great, Angelique, I suggest you do the same. Study herbs as well. Some of the things herbs can do are quite amazing. And if one does not need to waste their time with Healing, they should not. An herbal tea will cure a fever just as easily as a Healing weave in some cases…”

He was quiet during her next question, and he lifted a brow. Leaning back, he played for a moment, considering her question. “To Heal with Saidin…” He said musingly at length. “Is like…attempting to thread a needle with adrenaline pumping through one’s system. You must focus perfectly. Like a puzzle while the world around you has lost it’s mind. You must find the pieces and make sure they are pulled together just so, mending them until the seams are no longer able to be seen, no longer able to be felt. Nothing less than perfection is allowed… You either succeed entirely or you fail. There is no ‘good enough’, not when one is Healing a living thing…”

"But couldn't you keep your talent for healing and help another Ajah with your determination?" She asked as she tore her eyes from his handsome face and went back to reading the book she had brought with her. She loved the sound of that harp he was gently strumming, and she wondered if he ever used that Harp to attract other women and seduce them, making them picture playing their bodies like a harp. Her lips pursed and she shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. Her hands gripped the book and lifted it up. "That's what I'm planning on doing. It's rather interesting to read about all the functions our bodies do without concious thought." The book went back onto her lap and she glanced up at him, trying to control her thoughts. Light she needed to sneak off and get Garren all to herself for a time.

His description of what happened while he channeled saidan and healed was interesting. "Are you better at large scale healing, such a multiple internal wounds, or precise healing such as a fractured bone?" She asked softly, while she glanced down and read a little more while she waited for his answer. The passage she had reread now three times was about the brain and the different stimulus that they had been able to determine from the tests and observations. About how things like being unconscious for extended periods of time were bad, or that there were different associations based on what hand you wrote with. "But you can botch healing if you run out of stamina, or lose concentration and if you don't have the talent for it, it's very taxing to heal for such an extended time of healing. So am I to understand that you have the same Talent I do, where we are able to heal large or precise wounds for long periods of time, with little fatiguing symptoms?" She inquired before she glanced up at him again with a tilt to her head.

"And I must ask, how do you deal with patients while you are healing them? How do you manage to keep them calm?"

Through the fall of thick black lashes, he watched the female quietly, only listening as his fingers cascaded through the strings. When she finally glanced up she’d see that, emerald eyes peering at her in an almost heated way through those ebony strands. His eyes were intense when locked onto someone seriously, even for a moment. He looked back down at his harp when she spoke, his eyes moving casually.

“I am proficient at either.” He said with a clipped air that said he was being serious. “But, if I were to choose which I was better at, I would have to say the smaller, more precise work is more rewarding. And yes, one can ‘botch’ a Healing easily…if they are a fool enough to Heal when they are tired, or if they do not have the talent for it. If a Healer makes it to fully raised and still loses their concentration then…they should not have been allowed to enter the Yellow to begin with.” He seemed strict and final in his decision of even raised healers, and he showed no fear in announcing this out loud, either.

He gave her a strange little smile when she asked her final question, cocking his head some at her, looking her up and down from her toes to her crown, his eyes cold and judging for a moment. “If you do have the skills you explain, then yes, I would suppose we have a similar Talent with the Healing Weaves. These Talents, I’m sure, take much different paths, however.” He chuckled softly and shook his head. “For the most part, I do not have a problem dealing with those that are out of line. If they are in to much pain to be able to understand they need to be quite and still, however, I find that removing them from the waking world works just fine… I do not need them to be awake to Heal them.”

Her body reacted involuntarily when she glanced up at him, his emerald eyes looking at her very heatedly. Her insides felt fluid, something she had only ever experienced with Garren before. "Not everyone is naturally talented at this as we are, some have to expend great energy to do what we do on a daily basis." She said as she watched the Dedicated, before turning her eyes down to her book again, reading on complex surgeries that were performed by those without access to the One Power. Her eyes glanced up at him as he looked her up and down, and she felt like he was really seeing her, but it was so strange a feeling. She wished that Garren was there with her because it wouldn't feel so awkward. At first she thought that he had no problem killing them, but then she realized that he merely rendered them unconscious.

Personally she didn't agree with that, since it seemed very under handed. She would rather get a calming atmosphere and other methods as opposed to his heavy handed way of doing things. Her green eyes turned down to her book again and she kept reading. The presence in her mind became clearer and clearer as she felt Garren drawing close to them. Her body also made known the aches and injuries that he was feeling as well, and her eyes and face took on an expression of concern. Marking her place in the book again, she looked up to where her secret bondmate was coming from. Green eyes lit up in appreciation as she saw her Wolfkin partner walking towards them, likely looking for Jeremiah and not her. But it was still so nice to see him coming towards her in his Gaidan uniform. A small smile graced her lips, and she closed the book, setting it on the gleeman's cloak next to her. She arranged her skirts to be more presentable even though Garren had seen her in much much worse.

“This is true.” He said coolly, his green eyes watching her, heavily resting upon her red hair. “Those that are lesser than we, those that are naturally handicapped, should be trained even harder. And yet it seems that the training here is not as intensive as I’ve been led to believe it was.” He watched her turn her attentions to her book for a moment before going on in that even pace. “I have seen Healers barely able to weave the threads, be that for natural lack of Talent, or an outside source. I’ve seen those ruled by their emotions, easily goaded.” He moved his eyes from her, looking instead to his harp as he slowly plucked a string of cacophonic cords. “It is a disgrace. All should know their limits, and when to stop.”

For a moment, perhaps sensing his gaze, she looked up at him. The Dedicate did not look away, green eyes meeting green eyes without wavering for a long moment. And then, as Angel turned and looked in the direction Garren was coming from, Jeremiah nudged Caddoc sharply, causing him to look at the other questionably. The man only nodded in the same direction, and soon Caddoc was looking here, as well.

Garren had, of course, sensed Angel was in this direction, which was a surprise. He had thought to seek out his friend, perhaps for practice. The red she wolf that accompanied him now bounded from his side, approaching Jeremiah with pleasure, lifting a nose to touch to the man’s palm. Garren’s eyes were solely upon Angel now, however, and he gave her that opened jawed smile he always had given her. “Angel.” He said, nodding his head and apparently feeling comfortable enough around these two to let his emotions shine in his eyes as he gazed at her. He was bruised, and there was a cut above one cheek beneath the eye that *wasn’t* scared, but most of this wasn’t unusual, the Warder weren’t gentle in the Yards, after all.

"In an effort to help people you sometimes forget what your limits are, just because you want to help." She replied softly. "It's a mark of a good person." Angelique's eyes never left her book but she smiled softly as she listened to him play. For a brief moment she felt his eyes on her, and glanced up, meeting his gaze again, feeling that silly fluid feeling again. Once Garren was there, she saw that open jawed smile and couldn't help but smile back at him. It was so beautiful to see him that close to her, after this forced separation caused them so much time apart. But they had to play by Tower rules for now, and once that was over, she would be free with treat him how she wished in front of others. Her mind made the connection that it was okay to show affection for each other in front of these two, but her eyes took on a concerned look as she saw the wound on his cheek.

She patted the ground next to her for him to sit so that she could better get a look at him. Once he was down there, she put her hands on either side of his face turning it this way and that to check out the wound. "What other injuries did you sustain recently? I hate that I can't heal you on the spot. Always need permission and supervision." She said, before her eyes went wide and she took on a look of "Why didn't I think of this sooner?" Angelique turned her head and body over to face Caddoc. "Would you link with me and allow me to heal him? You can keep track of what I'm doing, and if you feel like what I'm doing isn't right, you can take control. I know that much about linking with a male channeller." She said, excitedly. To be able to heal Garren was something she was going to enjoy doing, and since she could do it without someone else having to breathe down her neck, she would be happier for it.
