There was a knock on the door.

In the past, Dog Gaidin would have barked to alert everyone in the room, but he didn't this time. This time, he had far better things to be tending to than making noise. Plus, the noise itself would have been a problem. He wasn't going to make problems. He had Important Things to take care of.

Natlya grinned and leaned over to ruffle the fur on the top of his head as she went to answer it.

"Asha'man," she greeted with her bright smile. "Thank you for coming!" She stepped back and gestured to let him into the quarters that she shared with Terric. Over in the corner on a big pile of blankets was Dog Gaidin, and two four-week-old kittens curled up in his fur against his side while mama cat slept with his foot as a pillow.

She stood with her hands on her hips, smiling at the animals. "They're doing well," she informed him. "They just ate, so their mama is tired but Dog Gaidin is taking care of it."

Maever Donovan When the request came to the Infirmary for a channeller with a delicate touch to go check on some animals, well, Maever couldn't quite contain his enthusiasm, and as such he simply had to delegate the activity to himself. Besides which, he did have experience with tending to injured animals and he was always happy to see what he could do for people. Even cats, who tended to not be so fond of male channellers, seemed to be quite okay when he had Healed them. The Illianer made his way to inspect said animals with a skip in his step.

He rapped on the door gently and couldn't keep the smile from his face as he was allowed into the room. Natlya was a nice person from what Maever had seen, and Mr Terric always seemed to be a reasonable sort, though oddly tall in the way that Aiel were. Maever bobbed his head at the pair of them. "Oh, it do be my pleasure to be here!" he insisted earnestly, "anything we can be doing to help!" It was the Yellow Ajah's responsibility after all, but it really did bring Maever joy to assist people where he could.

The Illianer then went to kneel down in front of the animals. Dog Gaidin wagged his tail and greeted Maever like an old friend - he gave the dog much attention and fuss. "Who do be a good boy? Ohh, you do be! Fortune favour you! Ohhh yes you do be, very nice, do you be liking that?" he could have sat and fussed over the dog all day but he did want to inspect the kittens. They were what he was here for, after all.

Drawing on Saidin, Maever delicately put a finger out to Delve them both in turn. What he felt pleased him, and so he released the Power. "The kittens do be doing very well!" he declared, "they do be seeming to be healthy to me. The mother do be looking fine as well." Maever did Delve her too, just in case. "What do their names be?" he asked, turning to look back at the woman with the red hair.

Although they had been a bit noisy, the kittens had been a pleasure to be around. And Nat's cat--the one she rescued from the warder yards walkway when she was a Ji--had been the sweetest mother. Not that Natlya had a lot of experience with what good mothering looked like, seeing as how she had never for one day known hers, but she could still recognize it.

Maever was just so...happy. It made the Gaidin grin as she watched, though there was a tiny shred of nervousness as she waited for confirmation that the little ones were doing as well as she thought.

She found a great emotional investment in these two little fuzzballs. She hadn't made the investment; it just happened. When he declared them all healthy, she let out a great breath and beamed. "Wonderful!" she said, putting her hands together and feeling more like a little kid than a battle-tested warrior.

"The orange one, the little girl cat, is Blossom. The other one, the little boy cat, is Shade." She chuckled. "I named her and Terric named him. They are getting cuter every day, too, as they get older. I'm going to hate letting them go, but I don't imagine three cats in this room is good for them." She paused. "I don't suppose you know anyone who wants a cat, do you?"

"Those do be most delightful names," Maever declared, giving them all the fuss and attention that they deserved. He did so like cats, and dogs, and pretty much any pet. They gave unconditional love; it was good for his ego. The Illianer tried to give them all equal shares of attention, and ended up giving them all some of his time to the point where he forgot he was supposed to be there to examine them in a professional capacity.

"It do be a shame you can no keep them but it do be making sense." Did he know anyone looking for cats? Ohhh, Maever would have loved to have taken them home with him, but alas he was far too selfish and irresponsible to look after a living thing. He managed his plants just fine, but animals? That was scarier. "I do be sure that the children at Mar a'Mael would be happy to look after them! They do be needing more light and happiness in their lives and I do be sure that this would do the job nicely. Ohhh yes," the Illianer was most pleased with his suggestion, and he looked back at the Gaidin brightly. "We can put together a care package, and they can open it to find everything they do be needing to look after kittens, and then... surprise kittens!"

Dog Gaidin made a low growl in his throat; Maever hadn't been paying him as much attention. He amended this quickly with some more fuss. "Who do be the most goodest of boys? That do be you, Dog Gaidin! Yes you do be! And you can come with us as well to say hullo to the children, that would be nice. And we can give them sweets, and you can have one... but just one."

Maever gave Natlya a bright look, "do that be sounding okay with you?"

Maever's joy tended to be so infectious that a person was likely to be swayed into agreeing to almost anything, just because they were swept away in his happy tidal wave. Besides, the idea of the kittens who needed a home getting to keep company with children needing a home, well, it was just too suiting.

"I think that's a wonderful idea," she agreed. "As soon as they are old enough to be weaned, would you be willing to help me with that?"
