It was going so well... [Attn: Bella/Gareth]

Every so often Alrim was reminded why Drin and Ji weren't usually pushed onto the toughest of battlefields. Drin in particular. Usually he was supportive but tough, trying to forge them into what they could be when duties allowed. He liked Ria, she was family in many ways he knew, and so he helped where he could when at the Tower. Presently, however, he was not in the best of moods with the lot of them. Neither were the other Gaidin who had fished him out of the detritus of their mistakes.

Burn me that hurts, little woolheads will get my boot after they've had the others I swear! he told himself between winces as he limped towards the doors of the Infirmary, a Gaidin helping him along with barely disguised amusement.

"Funny is it Jacob?"

"I must admit I'd never have thought I'd see the Gaidin Captain brought low by racking" the man said in a carefully neutral tone that made Alrim pause and give him a sharp, studying look.

"Next time I'll order you to do it eh? You need some seasoning I think. Blightborder is nothing compared to the monsters at home"

"It was good of you though...sir. I counted a handful at least who saw and did little"

"Know their names?"

"Yes"

"Good, write them down and put it on my damned desk so I can give them the boot too" he muttered as they finally got into the Infirmary.

"As you wish. I think a few of them could do with a sock or two. Getting too lazy"

"Don't push them hard enough then, do I?"

"They respect you but it's hard sometimes for the older ones to not see you as the Drin they trained"

"I'll bloody make them see stars if they're not pulling their weight Jacob, don't care about age. Leave me here and get back to help with clean up. And don't forget that list or I'll make my own and you'll be on it"

The man helped him to sit on a bed with a few hisses and winces before inclining his head and departing swiftly.

Ankle and wrist are definitely broken. Collarbone too probably. Few ribs cracked maybe. Light Sadira will give me a good hiding for the shock before she finds out what happened. Probably mother me after. Good woman he told himself, going through how he felt and easing himself too lay down upon the bed.

It was only marginally more comfortable. Possibly he had more injuries than he thought. There'd be a damned tavern song about this too, about the Gaidin and the Rack, he just damned well knew it.

Gareth happened to be loitering around the front of the infirmary right at the time when Alrim Gaidin was helped inside and put upon a bed. Although he had not ever spoken to the Gaidin himself, he knew who he was and that he was bonded to his wife's... Gareth's mind skipped over trying to figure out the relationship.

He was bonded to Sadira Sedai. That was all he needed to know.

Accepted Isla, doing another shift in the infirmary, was heading over to triage the case, but Gareth waved her off with a quiet, 'I'll handle it,' before making his way over.

"Gaidin," he greeted, his voice rumbling like stones falling down the mountainside. Already, he was seizing Saidin. "You don't look like you feel very well. Permission to Delve you for injuries while you tell me what happened?"

The infirmary was as busy as ever, the Tower tended to attract danger and injury in even the simplest of things. Channelling and weapons training carried risks that were impossible to eliminate, if not limit. He was unsure if there would be a wait or not, he hadn't heard of any serious cases but then again he wasn't kept in ever loop of the Tower, though he tried for the same of practise and a sense of obligation to his home. He checked himself over mentally again and knew he had had worse, there had been a few scraps over the years.

Thankfully he didn't have to wait overly long, family and extended family had its benefits. Gareth, everyone knew Gareth, he was hard to miss and he hadn't heard a bad word said about him by anyone. Usually that would raise suspicion but the man had been vetted by the best people he knew and those he trusted most. They had not met before and that likely explained the formal greeting. Bells jingled gently with a shake of his head and he managed a smile with a wince.

"I wish it were just my looks," he snorted to himself and regretted it instantly, "and call me Alrim Gareth, family shouldn't stand on ceremony," he sighed to himself, wishing the circumstance of their fist meeting were better, "I never get used to this, permission granted, now and forever" he said, nodding the permission to get started on what the man knew best.

Gareth offered a quiet, rumbling chuckle as he laced together the Delving weave and sent it through the other man. This came so easily to him by now that he was fairly sure he could do it in his sleep. Maybe even had at some point. Now, it gave him that window view into the Gaidin's condition so that he could Heal it.

"So, what did happen to bring you here?" he asked as he Delved. "I expect my kin to come barreling through that door any minute, so good thing I'm getting it sorted now. I will not have her wrath upon me." Humor glinted in his grey eyes.

A chuckle escaped despite his better judgement, he never could resist amusement. Standing back from everything it was all highly amusing, as his previous escort had remarked. It only felt otherwise because of injury - body and pride if he were honest. Pain, he had bene told, made you stronger. Whilst he agreed he did try to avoid it where possible. At his words though he focused inward for a few moments, feeling for Sadira and finding what they both knew already, Gareth was correct.

"A fearful thing, that wrath," he tilted his head, almost able to look serious, "but I think you'd be safe enough if you just give ground. If all else fails you can always run, I'll hold her long as I can"

He let his head fall back to rest as Gareth worked his talents, it always felt strange to have the Power used upon him. He only ever had it done by necessity, he realised. Perhaps it was why he found it to be an uncomfortable association. He should spend more time trying to understand it he knew, the theory of it at least. He knew as much as the majority of Gaidin did but he did like to find new things to learn. He made a mental note as he snorted at what had brought him to the infirmary in the first place.

"Racking, that's what brought me here. And stupidity. Not mine mind," he said with a slight frown, "had a few Drin and Ji going over the stores - weapons, armour, miscellaneous goods and so on. Shifting things around, showing them the meaning of hard work and what happens when you talk back to your teachers. Idiots weren't paying attention and did it wrong, before they knew what was what they had it falling all over them"

"Apparently I have become more altruistic these days because I got them out of the way. Almost got myself out of the way, not quite. Little woolheads will learn what happens when they don't pay attention with quality goods later...and Light I'm turning into my father"

"I don't see you around much," he stated, casting about for conversation, "too busy here? Or too busy outside?"

Gareth chuckled again. "If I didn't have a beautiful wife to return to my quarters for, I could well end up just sleeping here. There are plenty of beds, after all." The Delving weave told him the extent of Alrim's injuries, past and present, and pointed to the places where his skills were needed. A moment later, he was forming the Healing weave.

"I presume that you have been Healed before so you'll be familiar with what comes next," he said, giving a moment for confirmation before proceeding with laying the weave. Wounds were knit back together and smoothed over, pain removed with the removal of the injuries, though the ice and the fire, and the fatigue and the hunger, would shortly follow.

After he finished, he caught Accepted Isla's attention. "Fetch some food for the Gaidin," he said. She nodded quickly and scurried off.

And, as predicted, just a moment later, the door open and a stoic-faced Blue came in. Sadira arched a brow at her warder and then looked to her kin. Despite the considerable size difference, the Asha'man held his hands up. "He is Healed and all is well, Aes Sedai," he said with amusing formality.

"Give me too much more of that and I'll tell my great niece about your attitude," she returned with equal teasing, then she turned to Alrim. "I just can't leave you alone for five minutes, can I?"

"A good woman," he agreed with a nod, "and best teacher I ever had. Haven't had much time to see her of late sadly. Should probably rectify that" he made a mental note.

Perhaps one day he could manage to get the family together. Not the whole family of course. Even with the ones he knew you'd need half of the Tower. But some of it perhaps, enough to have an enjoyable day somewhere...probably killing Trollocs somewhere or other but then you had to compromise. If you didn't you were made to, he liked to joke to himself.

"Oh yes, the fun begins" he nodded and braced himself.

The healing was not as strange as he remembered last, perhaps he was getting used to it, or perhaps Gareth was just better at it. He had no way of knowing but the sensations certainly matched and it took a few moments to return fully to the present and blink away the feelings. He was appreciative of lack of pain though and he grinned as he tested himself out, moving the joint and pressing here and there.

"Never ceases to amaze," he said as he felt the tiredness begin to seep in gradually, it would get worse he knew, don't remember it being so nice last time around. Clearly you have a knack. If you ever get off I'll buy you a drink and we ca-" he began and stopped as Sadira arrived.

He gave her an apologetic smile in response to her eyebrow. He didn't like to worry her but he fancied now she had seen him the worry had receded. The banter was a good sign.

"I thought it was time to meet your kin after such a shameful length of time not seeing him," he began to say, holding his hands up after in a placating gesture, "but I'm fine, honestly, Gareth here knows his Yellow stuff. Probably better than before I got landed in here"

"He was telling me he could even sleep here. I know the beds are nice but I think he works too much" he said with a tired grin as he leaned back onto the pillow with a sigh.

"Oh, he does without a doubt," she said with a lovingly arch look in his direction, which he met with a raised brow of his own. "I'm sure his wife agrees, although she does too. It seems to be a familial trait, even if not passed down through blood." Her lips tilted into a smile as she turned back to Alrim. "He does, however, know his business very well."

Her steel blue eyes took in a long survey of her warder before glancing back at Gareth. "He is hale and whole once again?"

Gareth bowed his head slightly. "I would see it no other way," he said simply. "Food is being fetched and he'll just need to rest up a bit again, as well as perhaps exercise a little more caution around the young ones." He offered them both a small smile. "I am pleased that you would go through such lengths to visit me, but surely there are easier ways."

"Not for hard-headed borderlanders, I think," Sadira quipped easily.

"Does this also apply to one closer to my heart?" he asked aloud innocently before continuing, "I feel better than fine, will be around for a long while yet" he assured her.

It was true too. Despite the tiredness that was seeping into him ever more quickly, and the hunger, he felt better than he had before he had even been injured. He couldn't be sure but he felt that there were some other, older, and more niggling things Gareth had fixed that he had not truly been aware of. Or had had in the background and grown used to them.

"I probably need to exercise more caution period," he said with a small grin, "but then where would we be if everything were dour and boring?"

Still, he would take away from the day that he would have to put himself first more. Or more specifically Sadira. He had caused her real concern and worry. The fact he had been in a tight spot and reacted to help others didn't change the fact. He had responsibility and affection beyond the Tower now. She was more important.

"I'll be more careful. Tell me Gareth, why become a Yellow? And how did a Yellow and a Green come to mix?" he asked as the food finally arrived and his stomach rumbled mightily, "I did come all this way after all, hard head and all" he flicked is gaze at Sadira ten briefly.

His hunger got the better of him then and he began to tuck into the feast with an apologetic look for them both. Eating after healing was rarely a pretty sight.

Sadira smiled fondly at her warder, in the privacy of her own kin at least. Gareth, meanwhile, was quite used to the ravenous appetite of those he had just Healed so it didn't bother him in the least. The question, however common it actually was, still amused him. The second question even more so for its apparent error.

"Why become a Yellow? Well, for me it was as simple as being given a gift and not wanting to waste it. I learned early on that I was very skilled as a Healer, and I liked to help people. It was a natural fit, and easily recognized as my calling. As for the other..." He smiled slightly with his amusement.

"I was a Yellow that mixed with a Gaidin, and then had a Green. My daughter Tia has chosen to follow in her great-great-grandmother's footsteps and walk the halls of the Ajah of Battle. I suppose it's hardly surprising given the martial nature of her mother, and that it runs in the family. This one--" He nodded to Sadira. "--is certainly no shrinking violet."

The Aes Sedai smiled. "That is not a trait that runs in the women in this family. And don't you forget it."

Gareth chuckled, rocks sliding down a hill. "I never do."
