Kylin listened intently as the Asha’man replied to his question. He supposed it made sense. He nodded once to signal his understanding before beginning the new ward which he had just been shown. It was no more difficult than the previous two wards he had been shown but it was larger and so forced him to draw more of Saidin that before.

Even as he wove the ward he realised that this was probably the most of the power he had handled so far. In fairness he hadn’t been here long and so still didn’t know what he could achieve. In all his classes where he had been required to channel it had been small amounts, focused on control. This was the first time he had been required to make a weave of this scale.

Even though he had seen weaves like this a couple of times it still took him a long time to create the weave. The spiderweb of Air in particular took him a long one and he felt his weaving slow down while he focused on it.

Eventually he finished the weave. He then asked another question that he came to him. He usually found that the more he knew about a subject the more questions he had on it and warding was proving to be no exception.

“Asha’man, you have spoken about many different types of wards. Is it possible to create wards which do multiple things. And if so is it practical to do so or is it easier to just make two wards?” He asked.

Jaren
The Ward was bigger than anything Jaren had asked of him yet — possibly bigger than anything his lessons had involved yet — and it took some time, but eventually Kylin had a fair replica of the Ward Jaren had shown him. In truth, Jaren wouldn’t have been surprised if it had taken a few tries to get right, but Kylin was methodical in his channelling, precise, and clearly had an eye for detail. That was good.

Once the Ward was up, Jaren smiled and poked his hand through to the Warded area. “See, that sound?” He couldn’t hear anything, because the Ward was attuned to the channeller who had created it, but he knew Kylin would be hearing the ringing sound of the Ward being tripped. “That’s what you hear when somebody enters an area Warded with this weave.” He tilted his head; it was nearly time to conclude the lesson. “I think that’s enough channelling for now, but do you have any questions before we finish for today?”

Of course the Soldier did, and it was another good question. “It’s possible to create Wards that do multiple things,” Jaren replied. “But in practice, the resulting Ward would be very similar to just having two different Wards intertwined, and possibly more complex than the two separately because you’d have to take into account how they interact with each other. So in most cases I’d say it’s more practical to just make two Wards.” He was sure there were exceptions to what he’d just said, but he couldn’t think of any convenient examples and besides, it went far beyond the scope of the lesson, anyway, so he left it there. “If there was nothing else, that’ll be all for today.”
Spoiler: show
Okay first of all sorry about the delay -- if you're still around -- for some reason I was sure I'd posted this but apparently never did. Ah well. Secondly, if you wanted to pursue points in Warding, you should be able to get some out of this thread; I don't make the final call on that but going purely by word count this should qualify for the first two points for you~
