Re: The Day of Kittens [ATTN: Open!]
Darthalien hesitated, then stepped closer to the woman who was not a Weaver. At this range, he was even more certain of that; even if this place had Weavers who fought with weapons, surely she would have been doing something with the Shining Power by now if she could. She turned to face him, alert and ready, and he gestured at the small, fluffy body that had draped itself over his left forearm and was now rumbling softly. "Pisicuţă?" he asked, then looked around and shrugged helplessly. There were so many of them! We're all completely safe, he thought. Either that, or we're all about to be very dead. The uncertainty was nerve-racking, though he was careful not to show it.

Dedicated Kalyan
"I'll go," Kalyan said as the grey and white kitten hooked tiny sharp claws into his sleeve. He looked around nervously as the creature began to climb, and hurried to the wagon the second the woman pointed at it. He put the black cat down first and then attempted to keep hold of the climber so it wouldn't fall while he pulled the fabric of his coat away from the kitten's claws. It hissed at him, clearly not happy to be removed from its perch, and the Dedicated set it down with a great deal of relief. He wasn't surprised that it immediately started trying to climb out of the wagon. Smiling at its antics, much more amusing now that they didn't involve him, Kalyan wondered how long it would take the animal to make its escape. Slowly, he looked around the Yards at the multitude of kittens, then back at the wagon. I don't think they're all going to fit in there, and stay put.....
He decided that would have to be a problem for later and rushed off to do what he'd said he would, and find one of the Yellows the Gaidin had requested. The walk to the infirmary was a short one Kalyan knew well, and he spent most of it trying and mostly failing to get the grey and white cat hair off the sleeve that should have been black. He was still shaking it even as he opened the infirmary door and went inside.
When he came back out not long afterwards, Kalyan was accompanied by a blonde Asha'man who was much taller than himself, and was almost surprised that the man had agreed to come. His explanation about the mass of kittens in the Warder Yards had sounded so ridiculous even to himself that Kalyan had half expected the Yellows not to believe him. As he hurried back towards the Warder Yards, he looked down at the material that was still mostly fur covered, observing that perhaps it had helped convince them that he'd clearly been handling cats.
Back in the Warder Yards, the scene was every bit as chaotic as when he had left. Kittens roamed the area, chased by those who were trying to collect them, and although the wagon was about half full, the number of kittens still loose didn't appear to have lessened any. With a sigh, the Dedicated went back about the task of gathering them, kneeling down to carefully pull a red one free from where it had tried to hide beneath a rock.

Natyla Gaidin
Nat was still feeling a little brain-broken at what was going on. The day had started out so...normal, boring even, but that certainly hadn't lasted.
It just got a little weirder with the person who came up to her next. He was paler than anyone she'd ever seen in her life, and she knew she had never met him. (She would remember this one, after all.) The word he said wasn't one she was familiar with either. She tried to repeat it, in her uncertainty, but she knew it couldn't possibly have come out right.
"Pisicuţă..." Her hazel eyes dropped from his face to the creature over his arm. "The kitten?"
Gareth Asha'man Despite being originally tempted to suspect the young Dedicated as being influenced by liquor or some other substance, Gareth was a man to initially give people the benefit of the doubt. It certainly wouldn't have been the strangest thing to ever happen in the Grey Tower, and it was nearly shift change, so there were plenty of healers here to cover the infirmary while he was gone.
Gareth saw the truth of things once he reached the warder yards, and he couldn't help but laugh. It felt good, as he hadn't laughed much since... Well.
"Where are they being gathered?" he asked of the young man who had brought him here and returned to gathering the balls of fur. Gareth joined him, picking up cats that nearly disappeared in his big hands as he waited for the answer.

Darthalien nodded. "Pisicuţă," he said. "Kitten." He tried to remember what he knew of the speech of this place, and added: "Danger." He wished he remembered enough to express actual sentences instead of basic concepts, but that would take time. "Pisică danger." Was he wrong about that? This woman seemed to know her business, and she was calm in a way that didn't look like she was resigned to their inevitable deaths. She looked genuinely unconcerned.

Re: The Day of Kittens [ATTN: Open!]
Dedicated Kalyan
Holding the red kitten against his body with one hand, Kalyan looked up at the large Asha'man. He turned towards the wagon and waved his free hand at it. "We're supposed to be putting them in there," he answered, but he frowned at it as he spoke, not sounding very confident in his response. I don't think that wagon's going to contain them for much longer, he thought as he walked to where it sat. When he looked inside, he saw that a couple of kittens had hooked their tiny sharp claws into the wood and were struggling up the side in a bid for escape.
The Dedicated sighed, placed the red kitten he'd brought over carefully on the bottom of the wagon, and began to detach the climbers. His efforts earned him nothing but hissing and a couple of bites on his hands. Kalyan was glad to step back from it once he finished, but he still had a problem. The wagon was only getting more full of squirming kittens, and they scrambled over each other as they tried to find a way out.
Something climbed over his foot, and Kalyan bent down to grab the black kitten he found there. After putting it down with the others, he looked around the Warder Yards, hoping to find something else, anything else, that had a chance of containing the cats who were still roaming the Yards. When he found nothing, he took some time to think while he retrieved a few more of the animals.
He returned to the wagon carrying an especially large white kitten that had not wanted to be caught. It yowled its displeasure. "Oh, just hush," Kalyan told it. "I'm not going to hurt you." Instead, he put the kitten down where it immediately started trying to climb out of the wagon. Kalyan reached in and pulled it off, then had an idea. He reached for saidin and used Air to weave a barrier around the top of the wagon's sides. It made those sides taller, and more importantly, prevented the cats from getting their claws into it. He let the One Power go, pleased with his solution to that part of the problem, and wandered off to locate more of the remaining cats.

Natlya Gaidin
Natlya's pale brow knit as she listened to the strange-looking fellow. She still didn't know what language she was speaking, but her quick mind had no trouble putting this two-and-two together. Four equaled Pisicuţă/Pisică being kitten...but the next word didn't make much sense, although she could tell he felt it.
"No," she said, shaking her head. Trying to explain inconvenient would probably be more trouble than it was worth, but she could at least say, "No danger." She reached down to pluck a gray tabby that was crawling up her pant leg, holding it up and petting its head. It closed its little eyes and began purring. "No danger."
From there, she carried him over to the wagon. Her hand bumped into the Air barrier for a moment before she pieced together that there were channelers in the yard right then. Good idea, she thought before feeling her way over the top of it and then gently dropping the kitten inside. It mewed a little in protest, but it was unhurt.
She turned back to the pale man and gestured at the wagon. "See?"

Gareth Asha'man
Just when he'd been about to ask the Dedicated how his channeling with Air was, the young man went right ahead and did what Gareth had been about to suggest. That made him smile, thinking about all the younger generations that he'd seen come through the Grey Tower in his many long years here.
While the young man moved off to find more kittens, Gareth stopped trying to make sense of both the passage of time and the reason that there were cats everywhere so he could instead go check on the little creatures.
He performed what was essentially a standard Delving weave and ran it over each little body that he could see in turn. Despite being wholly out of place here in the warder yards, they all seemed otherwise healthy. There were a few fleas and one had a minor parasitic infection that was very common in cats this age and easily taken care of with the One Power but none of them were malnourished.
Wherever the mama cats were, they had taken care of their little ones.
After checking over the ones that were there as well as a few that Gareth caught and placed there himself, he turned back to see the Dedicated returning. After the young man placed his latest catch, the big Asha'man caught his attention. "I think we should try to find where they came from," he said. "Come with me."

Re: The Day of Kittens [ATTN: Open!]
If you say so, thought Darthalien, but he schooled his face to a Dagger's stillness with the ease of long practice and followed the older woman. Dropping the... kitten... into the cart was no small relief. He picked up a few more, watching the others work and learning quickly that getting a grip on the back of their necks worked best. I only hope she's saying that we're not in any danger, he thought, and not blithely assuming we're safe just because the kittens are harmless and the full-grown ones haven't arrived yet.
That was the moment when one of the kittens twisted around, trying to escape his grip. He fumbled, trying to catch it before it could fall to the ground and possibly be hurt, and wound up with it perched on top of his forearm. It promptly raced up his arm to his shoulder -- going right for his face! -- but then stopped and stuck its entire head into his white hair, settled onto his shoulder, and began purring.
"Amenda. Rămâi acolo, atunci," he muttered, and squatted down to collect another.

Natyla
At least they seemed to have reached some accord between themselves and the kittens, as the strange fellow began picking them up and putting them in the cart. She too was worried with the twisty one until she saw that the kitten had itself covered. She smirked. "You look to have made a friend," she commented, then wondered if he would know what she just said...

Dedicated Kalyan
When Kalyan returned to the wagon next, he was carrying a grey kitten in his arms. He reached over the top of the barrier he'd made to settle it in with the others, and shook his head at the squirming mass of kittens. Can't leave them in the wagon forever....how did the Warder Yards ever hide this many cats? It wasn't a question the Dedicated could answer, and he wasn't sure there was anyone out here who could.
Still Kalyan wondered, and the question lingered in the back of his mind as he continued to collect kittens. He was nearing the wagon again when something soft brushed against his ankle. A little black kitten was circling around, and the Dedicated smiled before picking it up and heading back to the wagon. After putting it down, Kalyan noticed the Yellow he'd brought here earlier standing nearby.
He nodded at the man's request, then looked up at him. "Do you have any idea where they might have come from?" he asked. "Feels like I've been around the Yards a few times now, and I haven't seen a single grown cat.....just kittens." Wherever the adult cats might be hiding, they were doing it very, very well.
