Time was not given to find an answer to that question, however.

"Behind!"

The word was full of such rush and such urgency, it was almost impossible to know who had said it, but everyone was spun round in a heartbeat. It was just in time to see that the reason for the call was the approach of bodies toward the door, which in turn was Hiron himself as well as three others: two men brandishing swords and a woman glowing with Saidar.

Miahala wondered how many Black bitches this man had on his payroll, but she didn't ask. No one spoke for a moment--just a moment--and none moved.

That didn't last, of course.

The female channeler's hands moved, which Mia knew instantly as White Tower trained. "Guard the woman!" the Green shouted back to Liaran, since Mia was closer to the door while the Blue was closer to the kidnap victim. The men surged forward to meet the attacking guards, while Hiron slipped back like oil down metal. Removing himself from the fray...

Liaran Sedai
Kneeling on the floor in front of Allistira, Liaran felt the approach of the female channeler just seconds before she heard the warning cry. She already held saidar, having used a small, sharp-edged flow of Air to cut the ropes on Allistira's wrists and ankles, and as she whirled quickly to face the door, the Blue sister drew on more of it through the little dolphin angreal around her neck. Judging that the other three could easily handle just two guards and a channeler, Liaran began to draw threads of Fire even as she turned back to face Allistira. The woman was paler than she had been, if that were possible, but Liaran was glad to find that she was, at least, not screaming. She whispered to Allistira as she began to place the threads within her weave. "Don't be afraid."

With this, the Aes Sedai turned back towards the door, still able to see all of the entwined strands of Fire she was placing in a large circle around Allistira to protect the defenseless woman from their attackers. As Liaran moved, she just barely caught a glimpse of a figure separating from the other three and fleeing from the doorway. Hiron! It was a lucky thing, in a way, that she could not manage a second weave even with the angreal to aid her, or Liaran suspected she might not have been able to stop herself from flinging a fireball at the man's head.

If the other three had seen him run, Liaran couldn't tell. They all appeared to be entirely focused on defending themselves and the woman behind her. From what she'd seen just this night, they were quite capable of accomplishing that task without her assistance. Knowing this, Liaran came to a decision as she placed the last few threads of her weave. Flames shot up, flaring above Allistira's head to nearly ceiling height, which elicited a shriek from the seated woman. She stopped herself, however, before Liaran could attempt to reassure her, giving the Aes Sedai hope that Allistira understood what she'd said earlier.

Trying off her weave, she released saidar, got to her feet as quickly as she could and gathered her skirt in her arms, bundling it as high as it would go. Anyone who cared to look would get a clear view of most of her legs and her battered riding boots, but Liaran did not care. She scurried out the door, and once she was out of the room, saw a figure farther down the long hallway and took off running in that direction. Though she was not an especially fast runner, the person ahead was even slower, and a smile spread across Liaran's face when she got close enough to identify the person as Hiron. She had hoped it would be him, but hadn't been able to be absolutely sure of it.

She ran as fast and hard as she could manage then, passing by the staircase and closing in on the end of the hallway. Hiron would reach it before she could, but he wouldn't be able to go anywhere besides one of the rooms off the hallway or straight towards her. If I can just reach the end of the hall in time....

As she caught up to him, Liaran embraced saidar and created a thick, blunt weave made entirely from Air. She hit Hiron in the back with it, but instead of being stunned by it, the lord instead turned around and punched her hard in the face. Stumbling back a few steps, Liaran took a couple deep breaths without taking her eyes off of Hiron. Her nose hurt, and she could feel blood beginning to seep from it, but she forced herself to ignore it. Before Hiron could move again, she rushed forward and slapped him with all the strength she had. Strangely, he seemed more startled by this than her earlier blow, even if she didn't think it could have hurt much.

Liaran took advantage of this to add to the Air weave, reinforcing the threads to make them stronger and heavier, and hurled it against the side of Hiron's head. Considering her earlier experience in this place, it seemed perfectly fair to her that she should attempt this. She watched with some satisfaction as the man slumped against the wall, then let her weave go and took up thinner strands of Air. Twisting these into a sort of rope, she wrapped them around his arms and used them to pull his arms together before binding them with multiple, very secure knots. Without letting the weave go, she looked at the barely conscious Hiron and decided against dragging him down the hall to the others. Wiping most of the blood from her nose on her sleeve, Liaran leaned against the wall to rest.

The man that Haeden squared off against really wasn't all that much of a challenge for the Gaidin, not after all he'd already been through, so he was just ending the fight with an unconscious combatant in time for...

...just in time to feel his Aes Sedai running past him and into the hall. The determination and fire in the bond was almost mind-blowing, and (shamefully, he thought) he gave him a brief pause. Of course, being the Gaidin he was, he shook it off fast and bolted from the room. His long legs carried him out quickly, but Liaran had the headstart.

Liaran and...Hiron! Several choice expletives rushed through his mind.

He saw (and felt) Hiron punch Liaran, nearly blinding Ives with rage, but by the time he caught up (in moments), she...had it taken care of. Hiron was on the ground, obviously unconscious, and she was leaning against the wall. Although they both were normally reserved around others, that was cast aside as he pulled her close to assuage the fear that had so recently, but so intensely, burned in his chest.

Taking her face in his large hands, he looked her over. Her nose would need healing but she seemed fine otherwise. He hugged her close, eyes watching the hall around them--and Hiron, to be safe--as he kissed her hair. "Good work, love," he murmured to her.

Liaran Sedai
Still leaning against the wall, Liaran looked up as Haeden ran the last few steps towards her. While she'd felt him drawing nearer to her as she struggled with Hiron, Liaran hadn't been able to pay much attention to the bond and the worry contained within it. She moved towards Haeden as he pulled her into his arms, allowing her Warder to look at her and see for himself that she was not really hurt. She couldn't stop herself from giving him a proud smile at his words to her, even though she wasn't sure she should be proud of what she'd just done.

Liaran wrapped her arms around Haeden, then turned her head and rested it against his chest, wanting to be close to him. The dark eyes, however, were wide open and watching Hiron, who was still caught up in her weaves and was going to stay that way until they could decide what to do about him. There were plenty of thoughts on that running through her mind...but all of them were fueled by her anger with the man on the ground, and held nothing of what the Aes Sedai knew to be right.

She sighed and spoke to her Warder, though she didn't dare take her eyes off Hiron to look up. "What do you think should be done with him?" she asked. Fury still burned within her, and she thought she could sense the same in Haeden, but Liaran hoped he was more capable of rational thought than she was currently. She whispered to him before he could say anything, "What I'd like to do to him.....for you, for Allistira.......there would be no justice in it." She had enough self-control to resist her desire to set Hiron on fire and watch him burn, but not quite enough to conceive of something more reasonable.

Haeden took his eyes off Hiron just long enough to take Liaran's face in his hands and meet her dark eyes. "All of us feel the same," he said with a faint smile, kissing her lips quickly before he returned his watchful gaze to Hiron and the hall. "But we shall all be the citizens of the Grey Tower that we are. Allistira will be brought with us, give her statements and be treated. Hiron and any who live will be brought back shackled and shielded, if channelers made it, to answer for their crimes."

Right then, Mia joined them--Ravak staying behind to watch over those who survived and were bound. She looked on with urgency until she saw that all was well. She looked around the embracing couple to the unconscious source of their ills behind them. "I see you have things in hand," she drawled wryly but with a small turn up of her lips. "We'll put him with the rest under guard and check the rest of the manor for any criminals or victims, then return to the Grey Tower."

Mia's piercing gaze swung between them. "You are both uninjured, I trust?"

Liaran Sedai
When Liaran heard footsteps in the hall, she immediately let go of Haeden, glanced at Hiron, and turned to see who was coming. Half expecting another attacker, she was prepared to embrace saidar and defend herself, but once she recognized Miahala, Liaran allowed herself to relax. She stood up straight and faced the other woman, watching Hiron out of the corner of her eye.

What Haeden's mother said they would do sounded reasonable to Liaran, certainly better than anything that had come to her mind, and the Aes Sedai nodded. As for Miahala's question....that required some patience from Liaran, who had let her Warder study her only a few short moments ago. She did not like being asked if she was hurt when he was right there beside her and would have known if there was any reason for real concern. One person looking after her was more than enough. After a pause to smother her annoyance, Liaran said calmly, "I'll be fine." She checked the weaves holding Hiron again, wanting to be sure she could get him down the hallway to be put with the rest.

Miahala's eyes swayed between the pair for a moment before the furthest corners of her mouth twitched upward ever-so-slightly. She then inclined her head in acknowledgement. "I am glad, then," she said. "After all, a mother's concern." She glanced past the pair to Hiron again, the faint warmth fading quickly. "We will bind him, and he and Allistira will come to the Tower.

"The others are sweeping the manor for any who may be left, but thus far, it seems that everyone here has either been killed or has fled." She didn't much seem to care about the others, though, as Hiron and those Black channelers had been the goal. The first was theirs, and the latter were gone. "Would you like one of us to take care of this one--" She nodded at their captive. "--or do you prefer to do it yourself?"

"I earnestly do not want anything to do with him again," Haeden said with a faint smile. "I would leave him to the justice of the Grey Tower from here on." He looked at Liaran. "If you have no objections? I'd like to go make sure his forced wife is alright and ready to go."

Liaran Sedai
When Haeden spoke, Liaran looked from Miahala to her Warder. "The Grey Tower can deal with Hiron far better than I could," she told him. "As for Allistira, we can certainly ask if she's willing to return with us, but I won't be the one to insist on it if she'd rather get back to her home. She doesn't appear to be in desperate need of Healing, and while we could use her statement, we can manage well enough without it if we must." She would argue this with him if he disagreed, or even with Miahala, though Liaran more than dreaded even the thought of that.

She began to walk down the hall toward the room where they had left Allistira and Ravak, dragging the bound Hiron behind her and lifting him slightly across the floor. With Hiron in tow, Liaran moved much more slowly than she would have preferred, and when she finally reached the door, the Aes Sedai tied off the weaves and deposited him just inside the room as she entered.

She crossed to where Allistira still sat, a blackened ring circling her chair where the weave she'd created earlier had burned. The woman flinched at the sight of Hiron, but she seemed to relax as Liaran crossed the room to stand before her. "As you see, we have Hiron. He won't be a threat to you or your family any longer."

Allistira blinked. "What are you planning to do with him?"

Liaran looked into the other woman's eyes. "We're taking him back to the Grey Tower to face justice there," she explained. "If you don't mind, we would like you to come with us. Our infirmary can offer you Healing if you wish, and if you could tell us more of what he's done to you, it would be easier to make sure that he receives the proper punishment for it."

Allistira looked away. "I want to help, but...my family, my children......I couldn't stay there for long."

"You wouldn't have to," Liaran said. "I can bring you directly back to Arafel myself once you're ready." Haeden would almost certainly travel with her, but even if the others didn't want to come, that wouldn't stop Liaran from seeing Allistira safely back home. The seated woman nodded and without further question, she stood up. "I'll come with you," Allistira said.

Haeden stood as inconspicuously as a 6'3" Gaidin of the Grey Tower wearing armor, a heron-marked sword, and covered in blood could stand as he let Liaran handle discussing the matter with the woman. He figured (rightly so) that this wasn't his best area. Once Allistira had agreed, however, he did offer a small bow of his head.

"We will see you safely to the Grey Tower, make up for the injustice my...relation has done to you, and see you safely back home again as quickly as possible," he told her with as much reassurance as a man like him could give to anyone besides Liaran. "My family will also assure that you and your family is compensated for this." Hiron was still related to Haeden, which made him feel somewhat responsible.

He wished they had seen through the ruse sooner and done something before, but nearly getting killed himself and Liaran being injured... Well, it had been distracting.

Liaran Sedai
It was a somewhat quiet group that moved through the halls of the manor, dragging the captive Hiron along with them. While there wasn't much talking, nobody was moving especially slow, making Liaran suspect they were all as eager to leave the place behind as she was. The Aes Sedai was moving at a fast walk, and though Allistira was trailing behind her, the other woman appeared to be trying to stay close. She hadn't said one word since they'd left the room where she'd been held, and kept nervously looking around as if she expected to be taken back there at any time. Liaran slowed down her pace to walk beside Allistira, but said nothing for a long time. She wasn't a social woman under the best of circumstances, which these were not, and wasn't sure if there was anything she could say that might calm the woman's nerves.

They were downstairs by the time Liaran finally thought of something and turned her head towards Allistira. "Why don't you tell me about your family, Allistira?" Liaran said to her. "You mentioned your children earlier, didn't you?" She wasn't normally one to engage in this sort of idle chatter, but if she could get Allistira focused on something else besides the torment her captivity here must have been, Liaran thought it would be worth it. As she had hoped, that simple question got the woman talking, and all Liaran had to do was listen and nod at appropriate times until they arrived at the stables.

With Allistira seemingly less anxious, Liaran excused herself when they reached the stables. She moved quickly to reach Haeden's side and gently touched his arm. Looking up, Liaran said quietly, "Haeden, none of this is your fault."
