Tia Sedai
Tia took a little solace in what Lysira said regarding Zarayne speaking to Ravak, but only a little. Had she told him, she had a feeling he would have joined her on the hunt for his daughter. Would they be successful? She hoped so, but then. . .Zarayne was an Accepted. Technically, she didn’t have to return to the Tower.

The Green Sister frowned as the pair rode on, and eventually shook her head slightly, “I am not sure of her connection to Cairhein, or if there even is one.” She realized she knew very little of Zarayne, which in turn made her realize she knew little of most of those she was responsible for in the Learning Ranks. You should do better. You can do better, and for them you must, she chided herself.

Letting out a frustrated sigh, Tia looked to Lysira, “It troubles me that this may not be a side trip, but then. . .she is at a point in her training that she can choose to leave the Tower if she wishes. Our journey to find her may prove futile even if we do manage to locate her.”

Zarayne
The rain struck the wooden roof in a ceaseless percussion of noise. After some time it had faded into the background, white noise against everything else she could hear. There were the sounds of carousing from the nearby inns. Occasionally they grew louder for a brief moment as a door was opened, allowing more noise to spill out into the streets. The hay rustled with every movement, although that was mostly constrained to the rhythm of her breathing. That was the only other thing Zarayne could hear: her own breath. That she was aware of it meant she wasn't as close to being asleep as she would have liked.

The sounds of revelry rose again for a few seconds before dimming. Zarayne shimmied a little bit on the spot, further embedding herself within the hay. This definitely beat sleeping in a ditch.

The groan of wood was something new. Zarayne frowned but refused to open her eyes. It was just another noise that she'd need to grow accustomed to. It happened again, then again, reasonably rhythmically. She had no idea what it was.

The noise changed. The creaking of wood was closer. She could feel it this time. Zarayne opened one eye before opening the other. Backlit from the tavern lights, a figure hunched at the far end of the hayloft, stepping off from the ladder. It was hard to judge height from the stooped form, but light shone from the top of a bald head, and thick arms pointed towards a sizeable strength and/or weight.

Zarayne remained still, unsure if she was visible within the loft's shadows. Her dress was a dirty white. It may blend in with the hay if I'm lucky. And in case her luck didn't hold, Zarayne sought out saidar.

'That is as may be,' Lysira agreed, 'but I think it best to find her and be sure of that, if we can.' Inwardly, Lysira was concerned for the young woman. They had come to know each other somewhat, and the Gaidin knew that the girl struggled greatly with the Tower, her place in it, the concept of her family and her home.

That was the sort of thing that might drive a young person away, but made it just as important to try to find her and bring her home; that act thereby showing her where family and home was.

'If we find her and she says she does not wish to come back, then we will deal with that then,' she continued pragmatically. 'In the meantime, we first have to see if we can find her in the first place.' That alone was a daunting task. Put Lysira in the forest and she could track anything. Even a dirt road. But a city? That was a different beast all together.
* * * It didn't take long to enter the city and reach the manor of House Breyon. Lysira led the way to the back entrance into the stables and was greeted by a stable-hand that managed this section. He looked grumpy at first, at the intrusion, until he recognized the Gaidin. He bowed immediately and swung open the gate.

"We were not told to expect you, Lady Lysira," he said with embarrassment.

She looped her reins over her arm. 'It was a last minute decision,' she signed. 'Is my sister at home?'

He nodded quickly, taking the reins of Lysira's horse for her. "Lady Kassyna is at home, yes. You are in lucky, Lady Lysira, for she just returned from a trip into Andor."

Lys smiled and then gestured at Tia. 'This is my friend Tia Sedai, kin of Miahala.'

The stable-hand bowed deeply. "It is an honor, Aes Sedai. May I take your horse?"

Tia
Tia dismounted as they entered the stable yards and offered the stable-hand a warm smile as she nodded, “Thank you, and please. Just be wary of any carrots you might have. Storm is a cunning thief when it comes to them.”

“I shall endeavour to keep close watch over any carrots, though I assume she may have one or two?”

Tia laughed softly as she scratched her horse’s neck, “Of course.” She handed the reins over and looked to Lysira, “I hope we won’t put your sister and her household out too much by our last minute arrival. I’d like to say we wouldn’t inconvenience them long, but without knowing whether Zarayne is in the city or even stepped foot in the city, it is hard to say.”

She watched as the stable-hand led both horses to the barn. A young girl approached him and took Storm from him as he took the lead with Lysira’s mount. Looking back to Lys, Tia offered a small, tired smile, “Shall we go meet your sister?”

Once their horses were taken off to the stable to be tended to, and probably spoiled a bit, Lysira turned to Tia. Not seeing any words were necessary, she simply inclined her head with a small smile and then gestured for Tia to follow her. The Gaidin knew this house well, for she had lived here as the lady of the manor for nearly twenty years.

Lys walked to the back entrance and through the door, which let them into the kitchen. The cook looked up with surprise, them smiled and bowed when she saw the Gaidin. Lys smiled back, but kept walking.

The house was large and well-appointed, but elegantly and minimally decorated. More was made from less, with gentle but rich hues of blue. That had been the influence of their Blue Aes Sedai mother, and they had both chosen to keep it that way in honor of Selenirra's memory, with a bit of military decoration in honor of Benar.

When they reached a large dark wood door, Lys took the brass handle and pulled.

She stepped inside and there on the sofa was her sister.

Kassyna was a near replica of her sister, although one would be hard-pressed to guess who was truly the eldest. Lysira was fourteen years older than Kass, but the Object of Power that youthened her made them look far closer in age. At some moments, one might even guess Kass as the older.

The lady of the house looked at the door as it opened and then stood and smiled. "Lysira," she said warmly. She wore an elegant grey gown with her black hair coiled at the nape of her neck. Her jewelry was beautiful, but sedate. She came over and hugged Lysira. They were about the same height and build, though one was clearly used to a...softer life.

Lys introduced Tia as they parted, and then explained why they were there.

"It's an honor to meet you, Aes Sedai," Kassyna said graciously, smiling warmly. "I would be happy to do whatever I can to help."

Tia Sedai
“The honor is mine,” Tia replied, offering their host a warm smile. “Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Trying to find one specific young woman is not too far off trying to find a needle in a haystack, especially since we’re not even sure if she made it into the city itself, or not.”

Kass motioned for Tia and Lys to take a seat, “Of course. Tell me about this woman you are looking for?”

Sitting opposite Kass, Tia looked to Lys for a moment before describing Zarayne, and that she might be wearing a banded dress, though by now, she may have gotten other garments. The three women discussed Zarayne’s background a bit, but before long, Kass excused herself before returning with a young man and young woman in tow. She had Tia describe Zarayne once more before telling the two to search the city. If they got any hints on Zarayne’s where-abouts, they’d follow up so long as it kept them in town, but if any news pointed to one of the surrounding hamlets or villages, they’d return right back to the manor.

There wasn’t much for Tia, Lys and Kass to do after that other than take a meal together. By nightfall, the two who’d been sent out hadn’t returned, and Kass had rooms arranged for both Tia and Lys. The Mistress of Novices didn’t sleep much that night as she fretted over Zarayne. Her thoughts went to the Novice she’d lost to the Arches. She’d felt helpless because there was nothing she could do to get the young woman back. Despite being an Aes Sedai of the Green, all her power did her no good.

Tia found she didn’t like feeling helpless, and despite the effort she was putting into finding Zarayne, she still felt helpless. While she didn’t sleep much, she did drift off, because she was startled awake by a knock at her door the next morning. Sitting up, she looked to it, “I’m up.”

Lys stuck her head in, The messengers are back.

It didn’t take Tia long to get herself dressed on hearing the news. She felt her heart pound in her chest as she felt anxiety take a firm hold on her. As she pulled her boots on, the Green took a deep breath to try and calm her nerves before she made her way downstairs.

Lys, Kass and the two kids were in the same room where they’d met the day before. Kass nodded to the young woman, “Go on. Tell Tia Sedai what you told me.”

The girl looked nervous, and her voice shook as she spoke, “A. . .a merchant sa. . .said he saw a girl in a dress such as you described heading east. She was close to the town of Prenoa. She had the red hair you described, and a squ. . .square jaw. He asked if she needed a ride, but she didn’t answer. Put her head down and kept walking towards town.”

Tia offered the young girl a warm smile, “Thank you. That is most helpful. How far is this town?”

It was Kass who answered, “You can be there by mid afternoon if you ride.”

Tia looked to Lys, “We should ride out as soon as possible.” When she looked back to Kass, her smile turned sympathetic, “I’m sorry we can’t spend more time here for you and your sister to visit. Thank you for your help and hospitality.”

“Of course, Tia Sedai. I will have our cook prepare something for you to take with you,” Kass replied.

Tia looked to Lys, “Let’s see to our horses.”

It was a bit of good fortune that Lysira was happy to take. She was grateful for her sister's aid, but that gratitude could never compare to what she felt for Kass taking over as the lady of the house. That was a role that Lysira had just never felt comfortable taking. It seemed to suit her younger sister very well, though. It all worked out for the best.

The Gaidin nodded at Tia, and they hurried out to the stables. One groom was already bringing out Tia's horse, as a sign of Kass's never ending proficiency.

Lys smiled slightly and then went to fetch her own horse. The horses seemed almost reluctantly to see the well appointed stable, but they complied. It wasn't too long before the horses were tacked up, the food from cook as in their saddlebags, and they were on their way to the city of Prenoia. It was a place that the Gaidin had heard of though never been to.

Neither of them talked much on this ride, focused instead on getting to the city as quickly--though still safely--as possible.

They made good time and shortly after midday, the pair came upon the city limits. They slowed their pace as they did, because they knew that their speed could be seen as aggressive by the town's guards or militia--depending on which they had. The town did not look like the biggest of cities but it was more than a fledgling village.

Lysira wondered how they were going to find Zarayne in there...assuming she hadn't already left.

Zarayne
When Zarayne awoke, it was not to the questionable luxury of the hayloft. The hard ground in the small cell was in its own way more to her comfort, although the manacles cuffing her wrists together were not. She pushed herself up into a seated position. The room was tiny at five feet square. The magistrate had been sent for and this prison would be her home until he arrived. It was an open question about how long that would take.

She couldn't come to blame her captors. Not fully. When they found her, the hayloft was already consumed by the flames. Plus she had known the dangers of trusting wetlanders outside of Hama Valon. Not that she'd invited the would-be thief up into her hayloft.

It was only because said thief was well-known that she'd been charged with arson rather than attempted murder. He'd been the one to stick around after the fire started to fly, so it wasn't precisely her fault. Fortunately no one other than the thief saw her use of saidar, so she didn't have that to worry about.

Breathing steadily, Zarayne opened herself to the Source. Wonder and light rushed in like a familiar friend. She touched the ground and spread green weaves through it. If she had to - and only if she absolutely had to - the Aiel would have to break herself out of this prison.

Tia Sedai
Tia furrowed her brows as she looked to the village where Zarayne was last spotted according to Kass’ runner. “It is a bit bigger than I hoped. Perhaps we should have asked Kass if her two runners could have joined us. They’d probably make quick work of searching the place.”

Reaching up, the Aes Sedai tugged at the base of her braid as she considered what next. Her stomach rumbled, giving her a clear answer. “Why don’t we find an inn or tavern and grab some lunch. Perhaps we can make a few inquiries along the way, and see if anyone has seen our wayward Accepted?”

She looked to Lysira as she finished, and the Gaidin gave a nod. The pair approached the village cautiously and kept their conversation generic. One they reached the edge of the village proper, Tia asked about an inn for lunch, and they received directions towards the town centre. Nodding her thanks, the pair continued into the heart of the village.

It didn’t take long to find the Busy Beaver tavern and inn. Just after Tia dismounted and a stable hand took Storm away, her eyes snapped to Lys’s. Not sure what ears were near by, and who could be trusted, she signed, We might be close. I sense. . .I sense something. She turned in place, looking for some hint of where Zarayne might be. She’d picked up on something, but wasn’t entirely sure what that something was, I think the girl may have channeled.

The Green scanned the street, and saw a couple of shops plus the village jail. Either it was Zarayne she picked up on, or someone here had the Spark. “Let’s grab a quick bite and perhaps see what we can learn?” she said aloud.
Spoiler: show
Perhaps someone in the tavern talks about the red head they brought in about the barn fire?

Lysira took Tia's sense very seriously, but if there wasn't more that she could tell, then going inside was their best bet.

The small Gaidin nodded, and they walked inside. Tia handled arranging themselves a place to sit, speaking with the master of the inn since she could, you know, speak. It just made it easier. They found a table toward the center of the room, although with a straight shot to the door just in case.

Nearer to the center, though, they could hear more. Lysira worked to look casual, but strained her ears to hear everything around them.

They had just been served two mugs when a man entered the inn. He was dark with soot, coughing into a rough hand as he walked up to the bar. "Man needs a drink," he said hoarsely. Something about him caught Lysira's eye and she watched him, covertly. "Finally got the last embers of that bloody barn fire tamed."

"Hard work," the bartender said sympathetically. "I heard they already arrested someone?"

"Aye," the man said, taking a long drink from his dented metal mug. "Some tall-as-all-anything lass with red hair. Don't know who she is, but it was her and that rotten thief of a man when the barn went up."

Lysira's dark brows rose and she swung her dark eyes to Tia.
